Yep, and can't upgrade from the test sd25 to the official. Not sure if the official works for anyone yet, as no reports of being able to load it on the seagate forums. I would wait until further positive reviews.

Your firmware has not changed, just the installer.

I know this, but the Specialist at Seagate recommended that everyone install the official as something has changed (probably the install package) but that is her recommendation. We reported back and she has the engineers looking into it. It may be more than meets the eye.
Just giving a heads up from the forum.

She said it was just the installer that changed. She then asked everybody to reinstall as a precaution.

Something else must have changed as they are preparing anew package for install. If everything was the same, why have everybody upgrade???

I had the impression it was more double checking the final version by the testers before making the general announcement.

But if the build number of the prerelease and the release is the same, they shouldn't make a new version, otherwise anybody could install SD25 over SD25.

OK, I see the new package will be only for the testers.

The old world
Can't update to SD25 even without having the beta installed. The upgrade to SD24 went without a problem back then. It's a normal, non-OEM drive.

As someone has mentioned earlier, The new MBPs have a unique build of SL. I found this out when my TIFF files weren't reading correctly in Preview or Aperture 3. Something was mentioned about the snow leopard build, and I was told by an Apple Genius that anything OTHER than what came with the MBP WILL NOT work with the Quad Cores. I have a family pack of snow leopard I cannot use, and the new build that come with the QC I am unsure if it will work with non QC MBPs.

Not fully correct, it is not QC related. It is the Sandy Bridge that makes the difference, because the 13" doesn't have a QC but has the Sandy Bridge and needs the special build.
