I just did a comparison, light browsing on both side by side, screen at 50% brightness. Got 6:45 out of my almost 5 years old 2012 rMBP (which has an old battery), 4:13 out of my new rMBP. The new MBP is also only marginally faster, 10% for most CPU intensive applications I use. Needless to say, the new one, which doesn't even have USB ports or a Macsafe power plug, is going back.

I think the comparison with 50 % brightness on both isn't fair. The 2016's is much brighter. You must probably set it more around 35 % to have the same screen brightness.

There is no % indicator for brightness in the MacBook how do you set it for 50% or even 35% ? Someone please enlighten me !

There area 16 'ticks' on the brightness indicator. Put it at 8 ticks for 50%, put it at 5 ticks to be around 33%.

You are correct; there are no percentage markings for the brightness indicator.

You can guesstimate the brightness; put it at halfway and call it 50%. That's what we all do. There are sixteen brightness settings - 100/16 = 6.25%

Each one adds 6.25% to the total brightness; 5=~33%, 8=50%, etc.

You'll never get that just right. After several years, the 2012 would be dimmer than when it was purchased. I'm not sure by how much, because I don't know the approximate half life for LED backlights of that generation.

Who would have thought that having a smaller battery in the 2016 MacBook Pro would leads to worse battery life?

Is this physics or what?

After the OS update I'm getting 9+ hours! Most others are reporting the same!

But nice try! Bye!
