New 2018 15" MBP - Thunderbolt Dock Reccomendations

Greetings MacRumors, been nearly 10 years since I've posted here...My signature was pretty out of date...

My 2014 15" MBP bit the dust last week (dead keyboard and trackpad). I replaced it with a 2018 15" MBP. I am looking into some Thunderbolt 3 docks to expand the IO when I am using it on my desk, and a portable solution to put in my bag on the go.

Any brands to avoid?

CalDigit TS3+ or the new Elgato Pro Thunderbolt 3 dock. The CalDigit is easily the favorite on the site, people love them. These are also among the few that will do 85W charging (compared to 60-65W in others).

I have the first generation Elgato (also recommended) and it’s flawless. I absolutely love it. The new Pro version looks like a solid upgrade.

Caldigit's TS3+ is very popular and solid. That's what I am using now. Couldn't be happier. It provides more USB ports. Arstechnica has reviewed many of them on the market and provides very good guideline for the USB-c and TB dock selections
