Couldn’t a store use this for payment instead of Apple Pay? They generate an RFID tag that sends a transaction ID to the store app that gets matched with an outstanding payment on my phone. Can be confirmed via FaceTime just like Apple Pay. Or won’t that work?
not quite as formal as payment, but walgreens already allows you to use the wallet and RFID systems to tap your store rewards card with any device already.

Not everyone. No notch for me. My 8+ may very well be my last iPhone ever. Not even sure if I'll buy this years watch. The excitement is gone.

You do realize the notch isn’t there for anyone that has the phone for a day? The notch isn’t even noticeable and until I read this, I forgot about it.

Welcome to 2013 Android Apple. Not sure why only the latest phones allow it.

Android did it first but Apple will have perfected the feature.

Not entirely sure how, but that's the sort of BS that's always qualified late feature additions on iOS before so....

I know nothing about the technology, but this would be a great reason for the new functionality - if it's technically possible. I would only thrust it if Apple, or another reputable company made the supporting software.

Thrust it? Ooer missus! :D

F***k you Apple, f***k you
You seem a tad upset?

I also dislike the notch, but it seems to be a feature for the foreseeable future — both iPhone and Android.
Apart from giving up on phones, where do we go?
:(

I went with Samsung. Note 9 and S9+. They'll do me 100% for the next year at least.

Android had this since 2013? Wow!!! That is remarkable!! It truly is ;)

Actually, Android has had this since Sep 2011, seven years ago.

My son-in-law used it constantly by having tags by his bed, in his car, and at his office. He'd tap the tags to change his phone's modes & personality, turn WiFi and Bluetooth on/off etc.

So can I scan the RFID tag from the key fob to the front door of my apartment and no longer have to carry it?

Negative. For one thing, Apple only allows reading, not transmission.

so is this the first time ever for apple to decomission one of their product after just 1 year on the shelves?

they pride themselves for innovating the X and after only one year they stopped production of the X and not even half the new features of the XS is available on the X.

I thought the X was supposed to be the future phone that would last a couple more years than the usual iphones?

Apple has a full pipeline of products, so it seems the X is redundant. Although it will be supported for five years.
