Less than one hour ago, I opened my new i7 2.6 / 32TB / 2TB / VEGA20 out of the box and it smelled a little funky on the top cover. I ignored it and was about to type in my apple id for the first time and noticed two dents in the front of the lower part of the chassis. Upon closer inspection I noticed that one dent had some black filler filled in and the other was a scrape in to the chassis. On the rear side there was some glue residue. Definitely the assembling quality is not the same as my 2016 mb pro that I got from the Apple refurbished store. I was eager to use this machine and transfer my data, but I just didn't even bother signing in. I am taking it back to the apple store tomorrow to get this machine exchanged.

The box was in undamaged condition, so this is definitely a QC issue wherever they are assembling these. Seems like someone dropped it hard on the assembly table and didn't bother telling their boss they messed up.

Has anyone else heard of something like this happening.

The opposite for me today....box came with a ding in it, no damage to internal box/machine.

Bad luck, QC doesn’t seem to be exactly great these days (my work machine also came with a small cosmetic defect). A dent out of the box is rare but definitely not unheard of. Just exchange it for a new one.

I have purchased 7 MBP pro over the last year, and this was to be my personal workhorse. I rarely get time to set up a new PC for myself. I was so disappointed to find it in this state. I was looking forward to evaluating it and running some benchmarks to reach a decision whether I should keep it.

I had one arrive with 3 or 4 dings along the left-hand edge near the speaker grille. One was a little sharp. I sent it back without so much as turning it on.

Yep, it seems for some unlucky folks they received dented MBPs

MBP 15 I ordered online last week arrived with a huge gash that went right through the external box and into the actual Apple box inside. Didn't see any damage to the laptop.

BTW, has anyone noticed a sticky residue on their new or refurb macbook? It's in the shape of a sticker that looks to have been removed but whomever didn't bother cleaning off the outline sticker residue. The 15" refurb I ordered had this, my sister's refurb 12" had this, and a friends brand new, *bought directly from the store Macbook Pro 13" had this. The refurbs I could understand having a sticker put on it and then removed before packaging, although one would expect that it would be cleaned off.

I wanted to post a follow-up to my post. I ended up having to go to the apple store this morning to return the MBP. While speaking to the customer service rep over the phone I found them to be incompetent and felt like this was going to get pinned on me. I certainly didn't damage it. I walked in to the store, and within 5 minutes had my refund.

I find that to be the case with many of the store employee's. Last week the girl said, and I quote... "This one has 2.3mhz of ram, and the macbook only has 1.2mhz of ram"... ugh.. it's GHZ! and learn what you're selling!
