For those who've received the new 2021 MBPs, specifically the 16" model, when it is closed, do the keyboard keys touch the screen or how close do they come to each other? This has been a real issue for me with my 2017 MBP (15"). The keyboard touches the screen which ends up leaving permanent marks in the shape of the keys on the screen's protective layer. Cannot be cleaned off.

Apple says it's because of weight being put on top of the machine while it's closed so it pushes the screen towards the keyboard. Or perhaps because I carry it in my backpack, the movements are causing the keyboard to scratch.

I'm investing quite a bit of money on my new MBP (set to arrive in December). It would be awful if this issue is still present. I'd prefer not to have to buy some sort of keyboard cover just because of this issue.

I have the same 2017 15" model as you, and have never seen this problem on my screen. Maybe it's just the way you carry it?

16" 2021MBP here, yes, the keys touch the screen (you can see the key-shaped dust particles on it). Same as previous models, though, tbh - on my 2016 the marks (that became permanent) were not visible during use.

Ditto for MBP 14". The keys do touch the screen under load, but less easily than the tapered generation machines did.
