I'm confused and fear I'll do something stupid.

Got a 3G S. In iTunes, it asks to set up as a new Phone OR Restore from the backup of my 3G. The last 3G backup had 3.0 Jailbreak.

Do I set this up as a new phone? Then somehow get my stuff into it?
Or do I restore from the backup of my old jailbroken 3G? And is that OK?

I'm sorry if this is a dumb question. I just don't want to lose contacts, etc. and don't want my 3G S tainted by jailbreak anything. Thank you.

Definitely set up as a new phone! Copy your contacts over to the address book, then when you restore just sync it back! The 3G S is not jailbreakable at the moment and having files carried over from a previous jailbreak is no good!

Do a restore of your 3G backup. Jailbroken files don't get backed up by the iTunes backup process, so they won't get restored to your 3GS anyway.

Besides, if something seems off about your restore, you can always set it up as a new phone later.

Gosh I have no idea how to get my iTunes iPhone contacts into my address book.

It'll show all my apps when I set up this new 3G S - right?

    Yes I know - I sound stupid.

EDIT: Actually they're already in my address book. I'm still scared. :) I guess I'll go try.

The problem with setting it up as a new phone is that you lose any settings and data within your apps as well as all of your other settings and data that is backed up (SMS, notes, mail settings, etc). For example, if you have an app that contains "Favorites" within the app, you'll lose those favorites. For me it made much more sense to restore from my jailbroken 3G backup. I didn't lose any of my settings and all of my phone settings came over. The only weird thing is that I have 2 battery meters - one shows the % left and other is the standard battery meter. I guess it's just a remnant of SBSettings but I should be able to fix that once the JB for the 3GS is released.

I see. Like the clocks, weather towns, etc? I'm good with that - redid them, but the apps huh? Hmmm....

Well, I'll have to do my husband's phone and his is more critical to be up and running - business and all. I did wipe out all his stuff after a 1st gen swap 2 years ago so.... So then I'll just plug his 3G S in and restore from his backup after he saves all his photos by whatever nasty means he has to go through on his PC. :)

    Thanks!

wow LOL Can't imagine how that happened! That's the one thing I want gone ASAP is that "AT&T" logo. God how I hate them right now. I guess I can go ahead and restore from the 3g settings. Will play with that.
