I just activated a new 5S three days agao. I noticed that my data usage for these three days is significantly more than usual. From Internet searches, it seems settled that all things being equal, 4G LTE does not use more data than 3g.

So, could it be that when I activated the phone there was a large initial data usage when it pulled a lot of my information from my old phone/iTunes account?

I noticed I was using up a lot of data because I had my settings set to allow automatic downloads for updated apps. So every time an app I had released an update, it would automatically download, regardless of if I was connected to Wi-Fi or not.

To Solve this go to Settings>iTunes & App Store and then scroll down to Use Cellular Data, and switch it to off. Now, when your apps release an update, your phone will only download them when you are connected to Wi-Fi. Note: This will also restrict you from using iTunes Match and iTunes Radio when not connected to Wi-Fi.
