I purchased my Mac Pro 2.8GHZ Octo core with 8800GT and other extras which combined with 30" ACD display amounted to 7000 $. I love my 30" ACD for gaming under windows but after seeing the New LED display i feel that apple will be abandoning the old model to completely renew it to the new one. If there isn't HDMI or new features on it, I wont want to get it. Plus 4 me to buy it, I want them to have 30" version. I hate the fact that apple releases such good products every few months cuz it makes the buyer feel stiffed.

30" ACD bought 9 months ago (2099$ CAD) = alot less probably when new LED one is released. What should I do. Sell or keep or wait.

Do you NEED a new screen? is the one you have defective or otherwise unsuitable for your needs?

If not then Keep it! its a good screen. Simple.

:)

Keep it. It's a very beautiful peace of art.

I was worried this morning. When the rumor was floating around, that Apple might have a new display. I just bought my 23'' acd back in July.
When I learned that it was covered in glass. like the current imacs I was relived.
I cant stand glossy screens. The whole reason I ended up buying a mac pro with 23''acd was because of the imac's glass covered lcd.

I don't see apple changing the 30'' lcd to match the new 24''. Most people who buy the 30'' us it for color sensitive work. That can't be done on a glass covered glossy screen.

Give me a break... "nightmare."

IS there something that the new model will do that yours doesn't? Have you ever sat and wondered why you feel the need to upgrade just because? Pay down debt, invest your money, give to somone in need. There is absolutely no reason to dump a less than year old 30" ACD from what you've described your use to be.

Give me a break... "nightmare."

The New Mac Product smell has worn off, I can see how that can be a nightmare for some people with a Mac fetish.

Though for some, going to the local car wash and buying the "New Car Smell" air freshener might work for 90 days.

A 30" LED display is still ridiculously expensive.

I like my 30" better than the new 24" inch displays.

You feel stiffed because new products come out?

The new screen is designed specifically for the new MacBooks. It's meant to be a complement to them, not a general purpose display.

Maybe in a few months Apple will release a new display. At which point your display will cease to function, smolder, then collapse into a pile of flaming shiny metal flakes.

Oh wait. NO! It won't!

Keep your damn ego-boosting display. Nothing wrong with it. Geeze.

Unless Apple intro's one with built in genitalia simulation ports for your porn-viewing pleasure or has an integrated IV that pumps heroin into your arm while you sit in front of it, who care if there is a newer product?

Apple makes money by selling new things to people, get it? You can't update the OS in the display or install bigger HDs or Blu-Ray drives in them so they get updated once every few years only. Good lord the whiners in the world today! Remind me of the snobby cousin to Harry Potter who got fewer gifts for his birthday than last year and almost severed his dad's jugular.

Geez. I really don't know why you're all so angry. I love my 30" ACD but when I saw the new LED display, I felt somewhat disappointed because it looks more appealing. I don't know why some of you have to get all negative and start blasting people like me for giving their opinion. Trust me, I am sure that others felt sad when they saw the new LED display because they new it would soon mark the end of the ACD line. Just giving my 0.02$. Take a deep breath and stay calm ppl. I plan on getting a Bluray drive and b/c of the uncertainty of it playing video on my XP partition with the 30" ACD, I might have been on the market for a revised ACD.

Why are you so pissed off in life? If you are, just got to let off steam and please don't do so on this forum. And please don't use such vulgar words.

I don't know about all this. I saw the new display and my first thought was ew. Glossy screen and it looks like an iMac. The current 30" looks much nicer and I am still super pleased with mine.

Seriously? you're miffed because they released a new product that people have been begging for for over a year?

I guess you can't please everyone.

Word.

The 30" gives you sooo much more room to breathe. How could you give all that real estate up just for a silly glossy 24" with less ports. I really like how they added the magsafe to the new display, but that's about it.

I'd never give up my 30" ACD for the 24" LED because I love ine but if they would release a 30" version LED for Mac Pro, I might change my mind.

Current ACDs have been out for years, and new ones have also been rumored for years or at least for the last year.

I think you should sell that outdated monitor. I could take it off your hands for a fair price. Drop me a mail.

Keep It

For sure keep it it will soon be onsidered a real classic. Plus in every way it is superior the new display unless your crazy for glossy.
I have 2 of them currently connected to my G% power mac. I will upgrade to a mac pro next year now i need to budget for 2 adapters plus the new dual link adapter uses a usb so thats 2 usb's gone as well sheesh. I can only presume the mac pro will go with the full size display port and some new GPU's.

I think people are just upset because their model is now dated. I bet if they put an LED backlit panel in the old case few people would care.

I am staring into my now-dated 23"s, happy as ever and surrounded by matte goodness. I would eventually like to get some LED panels, but mostly for power consumption reasons.

The old ACDs are fantastic displays, and there is no reason to like yours any less than you did Monday. I do hope a lot of people feel this way though, because if so, I am going to pick up a couple of unwanted 30"s ;)

30" LED Cinema Display under $1500, then my wallet opens. I am patient. :)

Why would you think Apple would abandon the current range of displays? Just because they've released a new version to compliment the mobile market doesn't mean the DVI ports as we know it on desktop machine will change over night. The Mini display port is designed for mobile devices... Unless your MacPro is considered a Mobile device I doubt Apple will abandon the current range.

Anyway don't worry, I brought this 30" display this year too and I love it to bits, if anything I'm considering buying a second unit, just so I'll have a matching pair to compliment my MacPro. Which may I add, still has enough juice in it to burn any MB and MBP around!! Besides...Matte is nice on the eyes!

I also think this would be the case. :)
Notebooks released with a monitor aimed at notebooks. Assuming Apple would follow this same logic again, then the pro desktop monitors will release with the Mac Pro. ;)

I plan on keeping mine. I love the look of the new display. But, there's nothing wrong with my 30". Maybe 2-3 years from now, I'll sell it and put the $$$ towards whatever is out then, but for now, I have no buyer's remorse. I have a great display. It looks great, works great. Can't beat that. Never feel remorseful for what you have bought, especially with technology. Or you'll be having a lot more "nightmares".

whatever you do, stick with the apple brand for the monitor. dell or any other is a piece of crap. especially for professional video or photo work.

is there anything wrong with your current display or do you just have a case of "i need the new things"?

If its the latter i have one remedy, dont buy things simply because its new.

If there is a problem with your current display however, go ahead and shop around.
