I've read a few reports on them being loose, I always wanted an original Air but I know they were extremely fragile so I never bothered. However the new Air is really temping me but the few things I've read on the hinges is still worrying me slightly.

Can anyone give me the low down and how they actually are? Are they all loose? Just a small number? I think I read somewhere the 13" had stiffer hinges, is this true?

No issues with the hinges, or anything else, on my MBA11.

Old ones had different and more fragile hinges than the new ones. At least I have no issues with my 13"

While some folks had difficulties with early MBA hinges I used both a revA and a revC for about a year of constant travel each and I did not find them fragile in the least, nor did I have any difficulties with them. They both looked and felt like new when i replaced them.

My new 11.6 seems neither loose nor fragile.

Me too: I used the Rev. A. MBA nearly daily for two years and never had any trouble with the hinges. I always worried that sometime they would go bad on me, but they never did.

I love my new 11.6" MBA. I had heard that some of the first people found that their hinges were too loose. Mine are just fine. They stay in the position I leave them in, no matter what angle I hold my machine at and they are not too difficult to adjust.

Over time the hinge on my Rev B loosened, and it still had about 1/4" of free play even after I had it tightened at the Apple Store. The Rev D has no free play at all after about 2 months of usage.

You're referring to the previous generation MBA, which did experience a number of hinge problems. The late 2010 MBA has redesigned hinges and does not suffer from this issue any longer.

I've been seeing fluctuating 11.6 MBA Hinges. My original MBA had the ideal hinges, maybe a bit too tight, and this replacement, has hinges just a tad looser.
I've seen some in the Apple store that BARELY hold themselves up, put it at a 45° angle and it shuts. My advice is to open it in-store, and check it out. If you don't like it demand a replacement.

I was worried about that as well but mine's OK (bought right before Christmas)

General travel is hard enough. Lightens up a bit right near closure.

I was prepared to open mine in the store and show the salesperson why by playing with all their hinges but they were all OK. Maybe the problem has been fixed a bit.

BTW, my 15 MBP now feels like a brick in comparison to the new Air.

My 11" is fine — the hinge is just right. It holds itself up at any angle, but I can open the machine without having to hold the base down.

Saying that, I've seen a few demo units with pretty 'bad' hinges.

My 11" is fine, hinges will stay at any angle I want, not too tight, not too loose.

after disassembling my 13" 2010 Air i found the hinges to be nearly identical, albeit smaller, to the ones used in my 15" MBP unibody. you can also take it in and have the hinge tension adjusted under warranty.

    Macbook air hinge Clicks,

    Macbook air 2010 13.3"

When i move the screen back, as far as possible, i hear i click coming from i ''think'' the right side. The strange thing is that it not click always.

It is not normal, a creak/click?

Do you people have the same thing?
How do this new hinge thing work anyway?
