I bought a Macbook Air the first day it came out in 2008. It turned out to be the worst computer I've ever owned. After 4 repairs through massive over heating issues, and in one case the screen actually detaching from the computer, I've always said to everyone what a terrible computer it is....but that my next computer would be an Air, because of the lightness of it makes it impossible for me to want to use any other computer anymore. And so I just bought the latest Air and am pleased to say every single issue has been fixed.

The heat issues were so severe on my last one that I couldn't do webcam chats for more than 5 minutes without horrible sound/video syncing issues, sometimes lagging up to a minute. I couldn't watch YouTube videos for more than 5 minutes without the computer slowing down horribly. And in the end it was so bad that I couldn't even type into Safari if I'd been using the computer for more than an hour without lag appearing in the keystrokes. All of this on a brand new, top-of-the-line computer with over 40GB HD space free and only the built in apps (and iWorks) ever running.

I always hoped I would be a fluke, yet my girlfriends Air had almost identical issues. But looks like this time they've finally got it right, and this incredible machine has been better put together.

If you're going to buy a new MBA, I highly recommend buying either the 2.13 GHz with SSD or buying the refurbished 1.86 with SSD. The SSD takes an ultra portable that is average in speed and therefore rather okay, and turns it into an extremely fast super ultra portable that is fun on the run, and powerful when plugged into up to a 30" ACD which makes it an instant desktop. Add a 24" LED ACD, you get a USB hub, camera, speakers, and perfect for a docking solution even the power for the MBA!

Good luck with your new MBA!

Yep, sorry, I went for the 2.13GHz. Just feels much more responsive and my lap doesn't feel like it's melting when using it for too long

    Dear MacMyDay,

You said you "bought" the new MBA. Why you didn't ask for a replacement at Apple?

I've bind through the same as you. I own a rev. a macbook air as well, and also got 4 replacements and the 4th one became terrible as well. Exact the same issues as you described. However I kindly got a great offer from Apple, to replace my MBA with the new 17" MBP with processor and HD upgrade. I couldn't be happier.

I love the MBA and this machine changed my life, but since there are still issues with the rev. c (lines) and I am not sure if the hinges are fixed I don't want to take the risk anymore.

    With kind regards,
    Bas

Basically by the 4th time it was out of warranty. I'd asked for a replacement all along, as it was so bad, but no such luck. Maybe I need to be pushier from now on.

The new rev-C seems a lot better with the hinges on the monitor. So far, anyway

    Dear,

Well maybe not pushier but you should never accept this. I emailed customer relations right away with my story and my disappointment about the fact that I spent almost $3000,- on a computer (I have the SSD) and it totally never worked as advertised. I wasn't pushy but open, honest and reasonable. Next day they offered me a replacement for the MBP 17"

    Good luck,

    With best regards,
    Bas
