What’s so hard about making a freaking charging pad? Others been doing it for years

No one has made a wireless charge like AirPower than features direct integration with the operating system on the various devices. Sure you have wireless charges with multiple coils, but AirPower is more than just that. But of course you could argue that Apple is over-engineering and over-thinking it.

I looked at the entire sitemap and it lists all the iPhones, iPads and watches for current and new models. Thats all it lists. Not even the current AirPods so it may be that sitemap isn't the entire list of apple products

Willing to bet money that AirPower will not support Apple Watch Series 3 when it finally launches.

Apple is really, REALLY going downhill, their pricing, build quality, delayed launches, product leaks. Why can't a trillion dollar company release an overpriced charge mat? Doesn't really inspire confidence for anything else in their line up.

The thing with the Apple Watch chargers is it is actually still using Qi, early on there were no copy cables because it required a handshake, but now that has been cracked, all it requires is the coils to be VERY close to the device. Look online at videos of cheap Qi chargers disassembled where the watch was placed directly on top of the coil and it recognises it and charges. The curved HRM of the Apple Watch is what stops most of the cheap Qi pads from charging the Apple Watch.

Apple doesn’t make any wireless charging mats.

I'm talking about the new Apple wireless mat that Apple previewed last year. What are you talking about?

Again, because it's not the same as any other wireless charge mat.

And there we go.. AirPower is still MIA, what a letdown and what a missed opportunity for Apple to not have it as an accessory for the new phones.

Yikes... very disappointed the airpower didn't get a release date as well as the new AirPods case.
I guess it's fine so I don't have to pay for a new product but it's a bit concerning.

Today was the day for AirPower. Everyone giving Apple the benefit of the doubt on this product (myself included) was basically giving them until today to debut the product before giving it up on it.

Considering the new iPhones are the biggest nothing I've ever seen come out of Apple at an iPhone event, they should have been a little more motivated to up the anti and have this product ready. What a flop of a day.

Grrr. That video of the girl delivering the case mislead me with that shot of her AirPods while using “Hey Siri”.

Sadly, new Aipods and a charging mat were pretty much the only things I was looking forward to.

LOL. We'll just pretend this thing we talked about A YEAR AGO never existed.

But, if/when they DO get around to it, they'll act like it's the most radical and innovative thing in the history of history. And never once acknowledge how long it was vaporware.

The watch series 4 was an advancement. The max could be fun. The phones this year are just a refinement of last year. But last year was a big jump.
But no airpower is a huge flub.

I bought the AirPods on day one. My favorite headphones ever. Love them. I was/am considering purchasing the updated model, whenever that happens. In the meantime, I've found some other bluetooth headphones I'd like to try (ISOtunes, for woodworking and lawn mowing) and those will likely jump ahead of the AirPods for next purchase for me.

My biggest "miss" was any mention of FaceID working in landscape mode. That really worries me for the iPad update. Looking more likely that those rumors about the smart connector only being in portrait mode are true and I'll actually consider sticking with this years model if so.

Not sure what’s so hard about developing a charging mat, but evidently this thing has really stymied them. Hope we see it this year at least :)

It's clearly a lot more ambitious than what they let on. Any third rate manufacturer in China can build a Qi charging mat. Apple is very likely going for true wireless charging here. They hint at it given that none of the devices require precise placement on the mat. It probably charges within a certain radius of the mat. This generation would be short range, future iterations would charge at larger distances.

The clue is also in the name "Air" "Power". This is very likely meant to be the first generation of a true wireless power standard and they haven't perfected it just yet. They gotta get the standard right before releasing the first product because every future iteration will be built on what they release first.

That’s just it, we don’t know the reasons why Apple has not made any mention of the Airpower since last year in 2017. It Very well could be a manufacturing hurdle that they have come across, but they should at least try to market the Airpower if they can somewhat more than they have, and really the consumer has no idea that it exists, it’s more of an afterthought.

At over a year from announcement and not a single word at this pathetic excuse of sales presentation, I am starting to believe there actually won't be an Airpower. Ever.
Wait for 'our partner Belkin/whoever' to come out with an inferior one later.

AirPower is nowhere to be seen on Apple.com after todays releases.. Almost seems like its dead in the water. The only place where you can see a picture of it is on the page mentioning the upcoming wireless charging case of the AirPods but its not mentioned by name any longer. Doesn't look all that promising.

Wish they would offer different colors for the AirPods.

They never will. AirPods are instantly recognizable as an Apple product, whereas all others just blend together.
[doublepost=1536785229][/doublepost]Anybody else notice that the girl in the video at the start of the keynote just said “Hey Siri” to her AirPods? She didn’t tap them to activate...I can’t believe that was unintentional.

I thought of that too! But, this might not be something Apple even announces. They don’t often acknowledge things that “should have worked from the start”, and just slip them in quietly. Wait and see how one functions for real. Also, this could be something enabled in iOS 12.1 because it’s wrapped up in other code that is specifically for iPad.
