As we can see, all Mac products seem to be going anodized aluminum now. Could this mean there is an ultra-slim, super spiffy aluminum MacBook on the way? My wife and I are considering buying a MacBook soon. I already think I see what will happen. I buy the plastic MacBook (2.16 core 2). In January, we see an ultra slim, aluminum MacBook sporting a faster logic board and perhaps even a LED display. Heck, they might even decide to throw in a REAL video card and dump the GMA 950; however, that would pretty much make it a MacBook Pro, wouldn't it... Anyone else think we'll see a new MacBook model soon?

What would be the point of the MacBook Pro then? You pretty much described a MBP..

Im guessing that apple's event at the end of sept will be about leopard and perhaps the "one more thing" will be a new macbook!!! Im waitting to see before I pic up one. The Macbook is apple's top selling notebook (I think) and I cant see them not having an update before xmas season. I would bet on a aluminum macbook in oct.

I really do not think they will change the material because then there would be no point in a MBP. I think Apple will change these things: Processor (SR would be nice), LED (if available is mass numbers), Better graphics (It has to be Intel intergrated), and I want to say better HD and thinner.

If Apple changes to Aluminum...then the MacBook line would basically turn into the MacBook Pro.

Exactly!

I'm still hoping that they don't do it. I think over the last few weeks there's been an obvious support for the current look...just hope Apples market research picked up on that too!

you do realize .. for everyredesign there is months of planning... so any new support in the last few WEEKS won't have much of an effect if they wre planning on making the macbooks match the rest of the line with AL. They could still tweak it with customer concerns, but if they have manufacturing in AL in the works, it's in the works, doubtful they would scrap a whole project just because the last few weeks have heard support for the current gen.

Just a thought... not to mention, apple tends to do what they want... it's been 1.5 years or more and people still have yet to get anything resembling the older 12inch powerbook for the pro line.. apple either waits till they get something perfect, or they release what they like and hope to surprise the public with something awesome and get them to love something they didn't expect to love...

I am super happy with my computer and my current first gen nano, but I sure love to see what they are putting out... Also.. I have a feelin if the macbook goes AL it'll be in colors too. After all, apple was the original colored computer company... gotta get back with it I think.

I hope so! :)
I'm thinking that :apple: should re-introduce colourful macs with 10th Anniversary celebration Macs (1998-2008). Hopefully there would not be a price increase for a colour other than silver (like with the iPods); but in the mean time, you can always buy skins or plastic covers for your MacBook or MBP!

Maybe they are merging both lines into one line that scales from low-end to high-end.

Or maybe this is the rumored sub-portable.

What I think is that... The rumored ultra portable is just a macbook in the new redesigned case. With improved specs. And that's it. It will still have 13.3 inch but will have a smaller footprint. Edges around the screen will be thinner. Macbook itself will be thinner. Keyboard is the same like the bluetooth keyboard. Silver and black are the colors, making multiple could pose the risk not selling one color which gives losses. Didn't :apple: say that they will make every product green by the end of this year? Means the Macbook will go aluminium, highly probable with glass. As that is so recycable. And Macbook's will be priced more aggresively like they did with the iMac.

Just my 2 eurocent's.

I think a possibility for the new macbook design could be an al outer case, but then a white inner case, like all around the edge of the screen, and by the trackpad etc. But then how would the KB stand out against the white body.
