If there are antenna issue and the case program is to help solve the antenna issues then why stop the program? Unless after September a new batch of iPhones will be made with no antenna issues therefore no need for bumpers for antenna issues.

Did you even bother to read what Apple posted on friday?

We now know that the iPhone 4 antenna attenuation issue is even smaller than we originally thought. A small percentage of iPhone 4 users need a case, and we want to continue providing them a Bumper case for free. For everyone else, we are discontinuing the free case program on all iPhone 4s sold after September 30, 2010. We are also returning to our normal returns policy for all iPhone 4s sold after September 30. Users experiencing antenna issues should call AppleCare to request a free Bumper case.

The Free Case Program is still going to continue after Sept 30th, but now you have to go into an Apple Store and prove to the genius employee that your dropped calls are directly related to the antenna issues or call Apple Care and prove to them over the phone that your having antenna issues.

The program is over for everyone else who ordered a free bumper because they were free. Their is not going to be a new batch of phones being released after sept 30th, please stop with that theory, its getting rather old.

So is the antenna issue fixed or not with newly manufactured iPhones? Therefore no need for a bumper?

Yes, Apple will fix the antenna problem, if they want class action lawsuits and face a massive recall.........

Apple never officially admitted they have an antenna design problem, so how can you fix something that doesn't exist?

Do I think there's a problem? Of course I do, I hold my iP4 without a case and the signal bar will drop. So if Apple actually went ahead and fix it, or they don't admit it but someone (and I believe someone will) buys iPhone 4 from the new batch, and are able to find some HW differences, damn right I will ask for a replacement, and so will everyone else who has bought the earlier "defective" iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 still sells like hot cakes, I would just leave the problem as it is and skip the possible trouble all together, and I believe that's what they will do.

Bingo! A number of people experience real problems; a larger perceive a problem because they can replicate the signal reduction behavior. Many (most?) people find that their phone just works fine if they just leave it alone. For many who do experience a real problem, a case or bumper alleviates it.

Thus is makes much more sense for Apple to simply leave it alone and address it in the next version in a few months.

Nearly every 3G or 3GS I've seen has a case; I'd venture to guess that most iP4 owners would have bought a case with or without the media hype.
