Hi there,
...
Icon is not yet done. If anyone is willing to offer their services I would be more than happy to accept :D I have ideas for icons but can't as of yet acheive them in Photoshop

I might be able to work on an icon, what are your ideas?

Also, is there a way to add a custom folder? Drag and drop didn't work. my videos are on my second internal to save space on the main drive, they are not showing up in the app.

I really like the program but it gets confusing when you have imovie projects...I have a ton of things listed in film theater and i don't know what half of it is because they are imovie sub folders. But i really like the app if it cleaned that up some how.

That's an interesting comment, thanks. I don't have any iMovie files so I didn't think of that. I will add more error checking into the code! :)

Quick update, I have a working HUD now for fullscreen mode. It fades out when inactive. Updated build available possibly later today.

Hi,

Could you let me know if you plan subtitle support in future?

I find it strange that there is such a lack of support for subtitles on the Mac.

VLC is the only player i've found that works well.

Thanks.

The buttons and the controls look like they've come from iTunes. If they have, is that allowed?

Looks like a cool app btw. Maybe a name change to "Movie Theatre" would be better than "Film Theatre".

Subtitle support is coming, though I give no timeframe for such. I already have working parser code but it breaks when there's more than 2 lines to a subtitle in a .sub file. I need to do a lot more testing before I enable it in the main code.

Frontrow has fine subtitles and DVD player has it too!

I'd like to know if there is a way to do this also, and if there isn't it would be useful to add.

it will be a lot cooler if the fullscreen HUD interface is like the overlay controls in quictime..i think that interface fits much nicer with fullscreen mode. :) just an idea. thanks for the app!

Personally I don't like the Quicktime overlay controls, so I'd like to get a bit more feedback from people about which they would prefer.

I also have a glassy HUD designed, which could be another option for the final design.

This is just the kind of app I'm after! I really liked the look of iVideo but was too tight to spring for it.

As some not very useful market research for you, what pisses me with video on my mac is that I have all my TV shows (most recorded with EyeTV, some DVD rips) compressed to iPod size in iTunes. Great for my iPod but crummy on the full screen and I'd much prefer an app that organised my full size vids so I could watch them easily. And it looks like you've done it! Will be keeping close tabs on your project.

As for a HUD, I like the iTunes white lines (recently copied in the latest version of VLC) as they are very unobtrusive.

Good to hear you're looking into it :)

Would you also consider .srt subtitle support? 90% of my subtitles are .srt format.

Cheers.

yeah, i know DVD player has subtitle support, but DVD player will not play AVI files. I've managed to get AVI to play through Frontrow by using the Perian codec. But afaik, this does not display the seperate .srt subtitle files.

only VLC (and mplayer) has, to my knowledge, support of .srt subtitle files.

If there is a way of displaying .srt in Frontrow, I would be love to know.

Cheers.

I think the glassy HUD looks much better personally, however I would suggest maybe changing the style of the buttons too which still look metalic perhaps a glossy background (similar to the overall BG) and pure white play/forward/back/full screen logos.

I really like the app so far, good work

Re your list of what I'd want:

• HUD/On Screen Controls for fullscreen
Yes please (I prefer the glassy look too)
• Collapsible nestled folder view
Yes, or column view!
• Time elapsed/remaining visible
Yes
• Frame stepping control?
Yes
• Playlists
Yes
• Playback speed control
Would be very useful for me
• Folder content updating?
Not bothered
• Drag movies into library?
Not bothered, but might be nice
• More information/metadata about tracks?
Not that bothered, but the FourCC codes would be good to see there
• Show what is "Now playing"
Meh
• Protected MP4 (iTunes Store) support?
Not bothered
• Smart playlists?
Not bothered
• Fullscreen navigation mode (a la Front Row maybe)?
Not bothered
• Movie streaming over Bonjour
Not bothered
• DVD Ripping (we'll see, I don't want to open a legal pandora's box)
No, leave that to the apps that specialise in that.

Cheers again.
Got your latest alpha available for testing?

the glassy look is good too..but the buttons dont really fit.

My bad it only has support for DVD sub titles as well. :(

Actually, one of my stumbling blocks for subtitles is that I am targetting Leopard as the platform for running Film Theater, and I'm actually developing on Leopard. Subtitle support will be present in Film Theater in Leopard, that's a guarantee. If I can backport to Tiger then I will.

It has come to my attention that Film Theater doesn't seem to play properly on PowerPC machines. As a temporary work-around, if a movie isn't playing press the fast-foward button for a split second. It should play then. Will fix asap.

Any updates on this program? I think it is a GREAT idea, but was wondering if development is still going or if it is finished. I like (and use) it as it is, but any additions are welcomed! :)
