Hi all

I have owned a pair of apples AirPod Pro 2 for 3 years and upgraded them to the AirPod Proo pro 3 and is a fantastic upgrade from the version 2s for me that is as much better ANC and better fit and also better sound.

The problem is when i place the AirPod Pro 3 in my ears i get a whistle type sound until they a full placed in my ears and then i get no problems with them when i go for a run or just listening to them, this only seems to happen when i insert them into my ears. I have never had this problem with the version 2 and wanted to know if other users found to have the same problem as i am not sure if its normal or something going on when inserting them.

any ideas ?

My experience:

My left AirPod Pro 3 keeps making a high-pitched whistle when I place it in my ear, switch modes, touch it, or near steady noise like a fan. Right one’s fine. It also does it when there is a sudden loud noise. So it could be a hardware issue, not sure. I scheduled an appointment to go to the Genius Bar to get it checked out.

thanks for letting me know sounds like a bug in the software as versions 2 never did that but apart from that these are excellent buds.

let us know the outcome of the visit.

For me, it happens with both the right and left pods. I'm inclined to think it's software. Please let us know the outcome of your Genius Bar visit.

Hey guys, just a quick update, the earliest Genius Bar appointment I could get is Tuesday the 23rd at 5:15 PM. Once I go, I’ll try to report back as soon as I can with how it goes.

Great. Thanks. Very curious about the cause of this.

No whistle sound on mine, though i had times when my AirPods Pro 2 would have a bit of a feedback/screech sound when going in. I always suspected it was the mic from one (or possibly my Mac) causing this, so I’d be curious if you still experience this when you’re away from any other technology/microphones

Same issue here with the left AirPod, it definitely sounds like a feedback issue with the internal mic at the diaphragm

I’m getting this also. As well as when listening and laying in bed. If my ear is downward to the pillow I get the noise or audio cuts out in that AirPod. Same with a tight fitting hat.

Same experience out of my left bud. As someone who falls asleep with them inserted, it's really annoying.

Strange, my left AirPod seems to have resolved itself today, don’t know if it was a case of breaking them in or if it had anything to do with updating my iPhone to the first beta of 26.1 (can’t really see how that could help when there’s no new beta software for the AirPods but it’s highly unlikely that it’s a coincidence that it fixed itself immediately after the update had completed).

Can’t recreate the whistle sound when inserting them now unless once inserted I create a seal with my hand over my ear and push in creating an over pressurisation which would make any mic whistle.

There’s a beta coming for APP3. A notification appear today in settings announcing beta participation. Hopefully that will solve this issue.

Update on the Genius Bar visit:

Got my AirPods Pro 3 tested. There was nothing wrong with the AirPod itself, but they gave me a refund since they couldn’t give me a new pair. I bought a new pair myself and I’m just waiting for the refund. It might be a bug that could be fixed with an update, but I would recommended to go to the Genius Bar and see if they can get you a new pair. My new ones are working perfectly right now.

Okay, I managed to ”fix” the issue. I just swapped in ear tips one size smaller and whistling was gone 😊

I put them back in the case and after an hour the whistling was gone. Weird.

I got my APP3s yesterday and they are fine when I'm in a quiet environment but I too got the faint whistle / hiss when I used them for the first time in a noisy environment with ANC on. Will try again and see if this is a repeatable phenomenon or if changing the tip size works.

I just got some APP 3s and have noticed a whistling noise a couple of times when putting them back in the case. It sounded like feedback to me. Maybe something to do with the microphones?

It’s definitely ANC feedback loop, hopefully able to fix with software update. Just took mine on 1st plane trip and the whistling was unbearable. Won’t travel with them again until it’s fixed.

Just replaced a pair and still getting the whistle noise with the new pair. The genius guy I spoke to said there’s been no returns of the APP3 in relation to this whistle noise.

They sound great overall, but the whistle sound occurs intermittently and is quite annoying.

Hopefully a software update will solve this issue. :/

Not noticed any whistle sound, also don’t forget to update your AirPods.

Mine were on an older version 8A853, latest is 8A857.

My AirPods Pro 3 are experiencing the same issue. When I enable noise cancellation mode, my earbuds emit a sharp whistling sound while I'm chewing food, looking downward, or lying flat with my head tilted to one side. I returned them to the official store and purchased a new pair, but the same problem persists. As a user in China, I've found many others sharing identical experiences. Some users even reported that during flights, when attempting to activate noise cancellation, the whistling sound continued throughout the entire journey until the plane landed. This seems to indicate a potential flaw in the product design. I consulted with the Genius Bar staff, and they informed me that this issue might be improved through future firmware updates. However, they couldn't guarantee it. I've now decided to return the product and will temporarily refrain from purchasing AirPods Pro 3 until this problem is completely resolved.
