All i want to say is.

Apple love macbook / macbook pro owner very very much and hate mac pro owner very very much too.

Their made display precisely for MacBook. (that general it must design for use with desktop) . And ignore what happen with desktop user. (and old apple customer too) .

By the way, students get three-year limited parts and labour on their machines as standard - the reason AppleCare in addition is so cheap.

That's only for their machines, not their displays. However, if you buy a Mac Pro at the same time as an ACD and purchase the full AppleCare (~£50 for students) then yes, both the Mac Pro and the ACD are covered for three years. Only, if you replace the Mac Pro at any point, sell it etc, then the display's warranty is voided. It basically piggy-backs off your Mac Pro. No biggie really unless you plan on replacing your Mac Pro within three years and not replacing the display at the same time.
