With the new AppleCare plan announced today, I was curious to see what the repair costs are for AVP. Is this new?:

As far as I’m aware, Apple hasn’t officially acknowledged the hairline crack issue, and it has typically been something they charge to repair/replace. But this seems to imply that they’re doing free replacements for anybody, with or without AppleCare.

It was discussed a while ago. They do it for free without Apple Care as well. Initially they charged about 800$ - but apparently Apple acknowledged a design flaw - silently.

Another thing that I think is unique... It covers out-of-warranty devices as well.

I wonder if it was better PR-wise to make it free, no questions asked, rather than having a replacement program for a 1st gen product.

I have to wonder just who was it that decided an expensive curved spared piece of actual glass what the right way to go for a head mounted device.
Also loved to have been in the meetings with people who thought it was a stupid idea (as I'm sure many did) but who were over-ridden by the single person who pushed the decision.

I see this happen in my own workplace, and I'm sure many of you also experience the same.
there is one person, high up that gets an idea stuck in their head, and simply won't listen to others, and that's the way it's going to be done.

It's not till it fails that something changes, and they probably blame someone else when it does 😉

Did anyone figure out what might be causing the crack? For instance, I wonder if it was more likely to happen with the single, back of the head, strap being pulled too tight and bending the front of the headset.
