Following the launch of its "Shot on iPhone" Mother's Day ad, Apple has created a dedicated website that allows customers to create their own Mother's Day video by uploading images of their mom.

The simple site, first shared by iPhone in Canada, opens with an upload image link, which allows users to upload a photo. The photo is then inserted into a customized version of Apple's Mother's Day video and can be uploaded directly to Facebook.

Content wise, the video is identical to Apple's Mother's Day Shot on iPhone ad, featuring photos of mothers from iPhone users around the world, with the addition of the user-uploaded photo.

The site, which is a new marketing tactic for Apple, may have been created by Apple advertising partner Media Arts Lab, as an employee was the first person to tweet out a link to the new site. Apple's video creation tool comes just ahead of Mother's Day, which occurs on Sunday, May 8.

Is is April 1st? That Apple website is terrible. People can't create their own personal and meaningful way to acknowledge their moms these days, they need a completely white sliced bread commercial solution? This is just like all the gimmicks Facebook puts out into the world. If this is where Apple is heading, I'm getting off at the next stop. Completely lame.

Fun fact: although that picture appears to be a mother and her baby on first glance, it's actually Mad Men's Peggy Olson showing off her crazily buff arm.

These days? You know, Hallmark Cards was founded 109 years ago. And before that, there were probably people who complained when others didn't make their own stationary from pulp.

Yes, these days. There is something entirely commercial, ugly and insincere about this 'Shot on iPhone' Mother's Day Video' that isn't experienced with a card whether the card be branded or home made. The Apple website for this is simply atrocious as well and something a web designer could make in a quarter of an hour with a blind fold on. I'd be embarrassed to send that. Apple's standards are dropping.

You underestimate how many .....guys.....will see this as a last minute saving grace cause they forgot its Mother's Day this weekend ;)

Markerting is going into overdrive to deflect from the fact that mum probably already has an iPhone and an iPad and there are no new replacements at the moment.

I'd be embarrassed to send that and so should others. It would be better not bothering and being honest about forgetting and taking mom out for lunch or dinner the following day. :)
Apple is a design company, not a marketing company, it needs to remember that.

I take it all back, I thought you could upload multiple photos to create a montage for your mum.

You can upload one stupid photo, so the whole point of This stupid ad is to make this ad viral. LAME

I can see my mum saying, what's with all the pictures of other mums, and mine last..... This is totally lame, and only designed to sent the ad on.

Apple is very much a markerting company, jobs was a markerting genius :) what's is not is a lame markerting company....well it never used to be, bit this is lame crap :(

Ironically, you can't use the website if you're using an ad blocker, which is a feature on iOS.

Pretty lame actually.
This. Facebook (although I just loathe them) makes amazing videos automatically. Apple comes out with ... this? Unimpressive. Although, you'll get a hundred comments here about people who feel you shouldn't comment if you aren't in love with whatever move Apple makes, even if it's lame.

The entire idea of this is that they can collect all of this and possibly use it in marketing. It's also important to note that people are so blinded by everything they just keep forgetting basic dates, not to mention people are so dependent of technology that they forgot how to write probably. Which is why Apple launches an app website for this. It works for them, and it helps the idiots who need help.

Can I ask, have you tired it? I agree with you , and once I uploaded an image I was shocked how lame it was, I'd be embarrassed to send this on

Give it a go and report back

There's something more commercial about the site than there is about the commercially available card? That's odd. Odder yet when you consider that the videos produced on Apple's site will actually feature the creators' mothers instead of some text that was mass printed after being thought of by a stranger.

"Mom, I thought this practically anonymous fart joke or sappy poem best represents our relationship."
Apple's standards are dropping.
Well, they're differing from your own. That's for sure.

The website itself is very low quality.

Are you kidding yourself? It says "Shot on iPhone". An iPhone costs at a minimum 50 times the cost of a card. Nothing free about that, it's highly commercial. By the way, people actually write inside cards that already have printed messages, you can actually do that. Some cards don't even have a message, you simply write your own message in that case. Or you make your own card. There are many options.
Apple's standards have hit an all time low. They were once very high.

Yeah, that graphic is not quite what I expect to see from Apple. An ambiguous image within a card within a circle.

What a terrible gimmick. Aside from being fairly uninspired, it requires a Facebook login too.

Isn't it ironic? The picture in the video where the song says "where the pieces all fit" is exactly where the pieces literally, physically, didn't fit!

It would be nice if the video were just a little more genuine.
