do the in store pickup option for the model you want. Pay full retail. When you get there tell them you did that just to hold the phone, they will return it and then reprocess it as an exchange for you. You will still have to be in an in store pickup line but this is the most efficient way.

will they reject you if youve done this? i dont want to pay $700 some dollars and be told i have to keep both phones. And this for doing and exchange right?

Please explain how you do the store pickup option for full retail. Bc it only gives me upgrade pricing

Being apple and there CS being top notch I doubt they'll refuse to take a return on a unopened phone. I mean there return policy states 30 day return / exchanges for iPhones.

After you have upgraded you aren't eligible for an upgrade so it'll charge you full price for the model you plan to exchange for. Basically you're doing this just to reserve the one you want. They will not reject you the return policy on iPhones is 30 days.

I'm surprised that Apple hasn't gotten smart enough to only allow same model same color swap outs or they must be in the original sealed container unless defective. This has to be a mess for them. Once that box is opened its a used phone.

The buy one color to swap for another color later plan has to cost them a bunch of money.

They won't tell me I can't have the phone or anything if I tell them I want to return it but exchange it for the one I have now.

Yes it might cost them quite a bit but what's the point of exchange policy then? If people decided to get a different color and apple didn't apple allow exchanges they would just return the phone and buy the one they want.

I'm sure the exchange process doesn't hurt them too much since they'll just use that to make a refurb. For a Genius Bar replacement

Agreed.

When I try to do this either online or via the app I get an "Error. We are sorry but this account cannot be upgraded at this time" message. No further options available so can't purchase it full price.

When I did this it gave me that too I kept doing it and it worked, or use another line on you're account. Either way it's getting returned so it really doesn't matter

on their website it states that you CAN'T return online iPhone orders to stores.

On my receipt from my phone I bought online it says I can return it in a store.

Then apple is contradicting themselves.

Note: An iPhone purchased on the Apple Online Store is ineligible for return to an Apple Retail Store.

Did you order online for deliver or order online for in store pickup? The latter I believe is considered an in store sale, maybe that's the difference?

Anyone tried this yet?

Could you explain, "keep doing it" please? Once I get that message and click OK I'm back to the store page without anything in the cart and have to start again, and then get the same message. There's never an option to pay full retail.

I mean i tried multiple times before it worked.
