The Mayfair Mall in Wauwatosa, WI store will open 31 August.

Walked past where the store will be situated, between a Victoria's Secret and Richard Bennet (upscale men's clothier). The "black wall" surrounding the storefront had two door-like sections on either side next to the other stores, though no hinges were present on either; however, a construction worker holding a power drill appeared to be installing something on the VS side.

Couldn't tell if any work has started inside. Interesting thought, though, that it takes only 9 days to create a store.

There has probably been inside work as well. That's the way it usually works in a mall.

I wish we had one down here n Nashville, I have to drive to freaking Memphis. On the other hand, our wuthorized reseller and repair shop kicks butt. It might be a respect thing from apple. This place has been open for fifteen years and was the first all mac shop in Tennessee. I know the owner, and he's told me straight, if apple opens a retail store here, he's closing up shop. Do like geeting stuff faster though.;)

30 August 2002

The Mayfair store is nearly ready for it's 10am opening tomorrow, with only a few workmen traipsing ladders about for an errant light or some other electical problem.

The store is much smaller than others, with a single window on the left and the mighty Apple logo glowing in a black slab to the right. No software racks were visible through the black-slatted screened door, and three rotating pylons with Switch personalities blocked my view through the window somewhat.

All the computer displays were up, as were the iHub toys. Employees were "out of uniform" pacing the floor gabbing to one another or in the back with some bald-headed gent. Some other older guy was guiding the construction people around and giving info to another through the door.

I don't think this store is capable of handling online orders like Woodfield Mall in Schaumberg. Still, it's better than a back corner of CompUSA with no-nothing sales yokels who'd rather talk Pentiums.

REMINDER: Doors open at 10am Saturday 31 Aug.

I know...they kill of small mom-n-pop style places...leading to a more and more homogeneous culture where every town has the same restaurants, stores and coffee shops. They probably exploit their workers in foreign countries, too...I don't know.

But they treat their US employees very well...

Anyway...awesome because it's free internet in a location where you can setup a laptop easily.;)

wow wow... you made my point better than i'd ever have done

how do they treat their us employees well?

treating employees well doesn't override killing off competition (microsoft?)

yeah, it is a bit tough to find a good place to sit and use a computer.... in a mall at least.

I've known several people who've worked in them. They all said:
  • Good pay/hours
  • Good benefits
  • Good perks
  • Good working environment

Probably do.

It all depends on your personal morals, and whether you view your employment by a corporation as your condoning all their actions or just as a means to an ends...

i don't have a problem with the people that work for these companies.

i'm talking about people who shop at starbucks and thus support it

a job is a job, and that's fine

but a double mocha grande latte capuccino.... blah

Ah, I see...consumer ethics...

I'm not a coffee drinker, thus I don't support them regularly...but a nice cold Frappacino does the trick every now and then. I'm trying to get my gf to stop going there so often, but...well, you know...
