Obviously. No point in releasing a product that is either heavily or entirely Siri-driven when the massive Siri overhaul is not released yet. Any HomePod or AppleTV updates in the meantime would likely fall flat. HomePod running the new Siri is something actually worth marketing. And if Apple TV search or navigation or operation can likewise be supercharged, that is something worth waiting for.

Apple has a new version of the HomePod and a new Apple TV 4K ready to go, but the devices may be tied to the Siri update that's been continually postponed, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

In a report on a planned September launch for new Siri capabilities and the home hub that's reliant on the revamped version of Siri, Gurman says the updated Apple TV and HomePod are both linked to "new artificial intelligence features."

We've been hearing rumors about a new HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV 4K since 2024. Gurman said several times in 2025 that Apple was aiming for a launch before the end of the year, but no new Apple TV or HomePod materialized. We also didn't hear a word about the devices at Apple's early 2026 launch event last week, which saw the introduction of the iPhone 17e, MacBook Neo, and more.

At this point, it seems like Apple may not introduce the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod until the new version of Siri is ready. Apple was planning to debut the Apple Intelligence version of Siri in iOS 26.4, but the revamp has been pushed back because Siri still isn't working reliably. Apple is now aiming to launch all of the new Siri features in iOS 27 alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, though it's possible we could see some of the capabilities before September as part of an iOS 26.5 update.

Gurman's wording today mentions a "HomePod" rather than a HomePod mini specifically, but in past reports, he has claimed that Apple has a new version of the HomePod mini ready to go. It's not clear if the larger HomePod is also getting refreshed, or if Apple is only planning to update its smaller speaker.

The Apple TV 4K hasn't been refreshed since 2022. Rumors suggest that it will get an A17 Pro chip and Apple's N1 networking chip, but no major design updates. The A17 Pro chip is capable of supporting Apple Intelligence features, and it was previously used in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPad mini.

The HomePod mini is expected to get a newer Apple Watch chip and it could also adopt the N1 and an updated UWB chip.

At this rate the hardware they’re currently holding off on releasing will be obsolete by the time Siri is “ready”

Regarding devices like homepod - i just want to say that exercise at home with music from a homepod like device or even an Amazon echo or related devices is a fun alternative to the gym or the park where, while those locations are better overall long term, it's nice a few times a month to be able to hear your music fill the room before entering the ear canal as opposed to earbuds and headphones that put the sound into the ear canal directly. This is why I feel like apple should get into the home exercise equipment industry so they can market things like this.

I’ll only be interested in the new Apple TV 4K if the AI features can improve picture and audio quality.

Kind of like enhanced dialogue.

If it can’t do anything of these things, I’m not interested as my A15 model is plenty fast.

I only upgraded from the A10X model because I needed Arc for my HomePods on Xbox.

Yeah, because Siri is such a crucial feature to using my Apple TV now. 🙄 If they are betting on Siri to sell me a new Apple TV then I already don't care. Apple could surprise me, but I doubt it given other recent product disappointments. My expectation now is Apple will put in the bare minimum to improve something and then it goes year after year without a new version.

I would like real useful features and hardware updates. Better gaming power, 120hz refresh rate for the UI with VRR, a better remote with silent clicks & dialed in touch responsiveness - maybe even backlit buttons!

While I understand, if indeed the hardware is tied strongly to the software, I still wish they would just release them now anyway and then they can just get their software updates when the time comes. Maybe there's a chance that at WWDC, they talk all about their big plans for the home and the new version of Siri etc, and say how it's all coming in the fall, but they just release these two products right then in June. Doubt it but we'll see.

I am just wanting the updated Apple TV for AV1 decode. Either New Apple TV or new Nvidia shield whoever comes out with a new device with AV1 decode gets my money and I will buy three of them. Currently 70% through converting my 175tb plex server to AV1. All my apple devices support AV1 decode but my apple tv's.

Well, there would be one point: Everybody who needs one right now wouldn't have to buy an outdated model that's about to become obsolete.

I'm really curious what Apple thinks needs to be added to the Apple TV. It's pretty much a perfect device in my mind. It does *exactly* what it needs to do and it does so perfectly

I wonder if they will use the Apple TV to be a place to run a local LLM so while at home your mobile devices can run queries on the AppleTV.

I've been waiting for a while for the supposed updated one, but after last weeks product launches with no new version of it in sight I just ordered one this morning. I figure even if they do release a new one this year, there can't be much more different to it than what I would need than in the current model. Now I can finally scrap the slow Google Chromecast and watch F1 in all its glory.

oh man... disappointing w/ the Apple TV. I have a few of the existing models in my house. One has overheating issues. I wish they all had AV1 codec support. Lots of things I wish they had... but I don't want to switch platforms. OK. I wait.

Steve Jobs would have totally canned the entire Siri team by now, and it would have been the right call. Siri is such a %$^$*& joke. And that's me being polite.
Steve wouldn't have even announced the feature until it was ready. That's the difference.

as I’ve stated previously, Apple has provided no credible evidence that Siri will meet its September deadline. In fact, recent developments strongly suggest the opposite. The prolonged delays have turned Siri into a punchline across the industry—and, unfortunately, Apple’s credibility on AI assistants along with it. Hence, I believe these two products won’t be seen until 2027!!

Nice to see the debacle known as Apple Intelligence causing hardware delays now.
Yes. I call it “Siri’s revenge”. Think of all the money Apple is losing because they have to keep pushing back devices that they could be making money off of now. Siri is definitely getting her revenge for not having been sorted out years ago. Never ignore a woman.

Does this means the new HomePod will get the new siri?
More likely the new AppleTV (and/or the HomePad) will process the Siri requests from HomePod Minis.

I don't understand this decision. As mentioned, the new HomePod Mini isn't going to support new Siri itself without another A17Pro (or later)-containing device, so why not just release that now as a better HomePod Mini (new colours, better Handoff via U2 chip, faster WiFi and processing)?

The Apple TV too, why not launch it now as an updated Apple TV and then add the Siri offload capability via an OS update later. I get that Apple is likely trying to have a big launch for the new Siri and Apple Intelligence consisting of software and new hardware launching in tandem, but there is a real risk of both the Apple TV 4K and HomePod Mini updates being on the verge of being obsolete at lauch (an A17Pro AI processing device launched alongside the A20 chip and an S9-based S10-equiped HomePod launched alongside the S12 chip). I think it makes more sense to launch the devices now when they don't seem quite so outdated and then give them a widely promoted free software update to enable new Siri Apple Intelligence later in the year, which will make it seem like Apple isn't making you run out and buy all new hardware just to get an unproven Siri & widely derided AI.

For the new AppleTV it needs AV1 for decoding and Dolby Vison 2.

For the HomePod im honestly not sure what it can bring to the table that would be a must have feature.
