Congrats on the new purchase. I compliment your choice of MacBook Pros. I'm very happy that Apple is again offering a matte option.

Enjoy the new MacBook Pro. As far as musts for your computer, much will depend on your individual tastes and interests, but downloading iStat Pro widget is sure to amuse you.

Mroogle. Ask your questions there first.

this is only halfway useful. most people new to mac(including and especially me) dont know what questions to even ask or where to start. good resource though once you learn more about everything mac

I caution you on the g-drive. I know Apple uses them in print and at the genius bar, which is why I bought one, but so far I have a 50 percent failure rate. My G-tech Q which I bought online had a faulty power supply (the enclosure was 3 years old, mind you) so I replaced it and its been working great for a few months. I then purchased a G-Raid Mini 500gb brand new from Apple (299 bucks) and it died on me after 3 months of extremely light usage (100 gb total used up until that point). Its now out on RMA and G-Tech claims a 5-10 day turn around and it's already been "on the bench" for three weeks now, even though I told them that data recovery wasn't needed. There are similar reports on creative cow about spontaneously dying drives needing warranty repair and losing files in the processes, but I didn't heed them. The only way I was able to recover my data was with the triple threat in my arsenal, Drive Genius, Techtool and Disk Warrior (Techtool 5 is a good program to have just incase) (I have the other two because I have 6TB worth of important data). Hopefully you will have better luck.
