Hello People,

Just bought a shiny Apple Watch 38mm Series 3 yesterday and went today for the first run with it. I always used garmin with satisfaction. I left the iphone at home because i was confident about the apple watch gps. I started a session with Nike+ Club. Well, after few meters was obvious that the gps isn't working, at least without the iphone. I completed my run with a total of 0,03km (!?), indoor run (was outdoor), Red circle at zero, Green Circle completed, Blue circle at just a quarter. The green circle went full completed only after a manual modification of the distance run from the Nike+ app.

So, the problem is the nike+ app or is this faulty unit? Is there a way to test the gps without a new run?

Make sure you have allowed your NRC app access to the GPS. Not sure where it is in the settings. Go through both the my watch app and the settings on the iPhone

Added - you have to select outdoor run on the app. Indoor run doesn't use the GPS, and since it was your first run, there's no calibration data to estimate distance.

Yeah, i did a watch restart then tried a new run. The watch told me to open the NRC on the iphone. In the iphone app popped up a window asking me for permissions. I think now it is fixed. Thank you.

I don’t have a Nike version of the AW3, but if you were record8ng a run you need to make sure you selected and started the appropriate exercise setting within the Workouts app (probably same for Nike app I think).

Nope, NRC is only for running.

More than likely, it's the NRC application. I have a series 2 Nike+ Apple Watch, and NRC has never properly worked on it. And judging by the reviews of the app in the iTunes app store, I'm not alone.

I first reported this to AppleCare just a week after I got the watch. Unfortunately, I've had no luck getting Apple to treat this as a product defect. Numerous AppleCare reps have told me that because NRC is developed by Nike, it is a third-party issue for which Apple is not responsible.

You might have better luck than I did. But if you don't, I'd recommend trying another third-party running app. There are several, and nearly all of them work better than NRC. I tried most and settled on iSmoothRun, but there are a lot of people who love Runkeeper as well.

Use the built in app. I have always had problems with the Nike run app from day one on my series 2. Super laggy and would crash during runs sometimes. So I’ve used the built in workout app ever since and it’s been fine.

The fact is that I have almost 6 years of data on Nike+, even my garmin band was synchronized to it.

I've been using Nike+ since 2006. The nice thing about iSmoothRun is that it exports to Nike+, so I'm able to continue logging my miles with that service even though I'm not using the NRC app.

Me too. Been running with Nike since 2010 and my iPhone 4. It s u c k s. Now I just run with built in app and manually type in the miles and time into the NRC app.

I thought the integration was top notch since AW has a Nike branded version too. Reminds me the mega flop with the Apple iTunes phone made by Motorola.

BTW the best fitness band ever is still the Nike Fuelband (also the old Nike app still is the best). It was able to motivate my workout during the day like nothing else. Still remember my midnight runs :)

Yes! That's one of the best comparisons I've heard.

Apple needs to own this problem instead of telling those of us who have bought the Nike+ version of the Apple Watch that the problems with NRC are "a third-party issue."
