Batt life is important - but not as THE only major feature...

Still love my first generation Watch, but would consider upgrading this year if my existing collection of bands will still fit a new stainless steel version.

Per the headline, it doesn't sound like a "New Apple Watch" to me. More like a technical refresh.

And I'm fine with that (but I agree with GrumpyMom that some new watch face options are long overdue)

im happy with my 1st gen, until we see some design changes, or at least some radical app changes, that this watch can't do.
I think most of the public will agree with you. Apple's biggest obstacle to selling more hardware (not just the watch, but iPads and Macs too) isn't the hardware, but a compelling software reason. No killer apps? No sale.

Apple Watch series 2's battery life is super good already. I can easily use the watch 2 days without charging. I stretched it to 2.5 a few times too, and maybe can last for 3 days (with power reserve mode)...
Thanks but no thanks if it's just battery improvements.

Apps on the Watch haven't exactly set the world alight, you would only need to redesign a couple of dozen apps at most. :D
Agreed there's less apps, but who do you mean by 'you'? Surely ALL apps would need to be redesigned. Two shapes would add a lot of design work and hinder future app development, discouraging it when we'd like more of it.

Worse, I think a lot of designers will make compromises, designing apps to run on either by ignoring all space that's not common to both.

Given the lengthy exposition by Jony Ive around the original design rationale, I'd think it'd be a long time before Apple could plausibly change its basic form. Quoting him, "When a huge part of the function is lists, a circle doesn’t make any sense." Any other shape can't suddenly make sense.
Indeed, circular clock faces made sense because of the constraints imposed by the mechanical gears and mechanisms used to implement them. That, and the intuitive attractiveness of physically representing time as a circular or repeating entity.

Better battery life would surely attract new Apple Watch buyers.

Most people I know balk at 1 day battery life and it puts them off purchasing.

Last 10 days I've been wearing a Samsung Gear S3 and it genuinely averages 3.5 days on a single charge. The hardware is incredible, only problem is a lack of third party apps.

Really? I have absolutely zero issue with 1 day battery life in a watch. Doesn't matter if it has 1 or 10 days, I'm going to take it off every single night. Throwing it on the charger takes just as long as throwing it on the dresser so it's a non-issue.

I was just being flippant about the apps. :)

I know it would cause complications but as much as I like the Apple Watch for it's functionality, I still don't like the current bland looking case design and would welcome some true variety in the designs.

battery life? I put it on yesterday at 9am and today at 7am after forgetting to charge it overnight its at 60% my phone isn't that good and it needs my phone to work so its fine unless they add a cellular connection. If they added cellular that would be fine but the last thing I need is a data plan for my watch to pay for

I've been very happy with my S2 AW battery life. Sometimes, I can end the day with ~70%+ battery life left.
In contrast, my Moto 360 1st gen will only have ~10-20% left at the end of the day, while my moto 360 2nd gen have ~30% left. They definitely last a full day for me, but the S2 AW impressed me more.

I've owned a series 0 and now have a series 2 and I have to say the only thing I would change is sod all. My battery lasts at least 36 hours with normal usage. It's waterproof, has gps, has a good overall speed increase and looks good.

If there was one thing I would ask is for fully customisable Watch faces. There are some great developers out there who could make some killer Watch faces for the Apple Watch.....

That's exactly how I used to feel, but there are benefits to having a longer battery life (one of which is sleep tracking) - I've recently been wearing my Forerunner full time with my AW barely getting a look in. One of the benefits of the Forerunner is the ridiculously long battery life (10 days) - this means I can wear it overnight to track my sleep and also a 20 minute charge per day when I'm in the shower / getting ready is all it needs to keep the battery fully charged

I am ready with new headlines for 2017
  • New Apple iPad to Launch in Spring 2017 With Improved Battery Life But no Major Design Changes
  • New Apple iMac to Launch in Summer 2017 With USB-C ports But no Major Design Changes
  • New Apple iPhone to Launch in Fall 2017 With Improved Battery Life But no Major Design Changes
I don't blame Macrumors because that's what Apple does these days.

2.5 days isn't everyone's idea of 'super good'. 5 days and I'll be impressed.

If this rumour is true then Apple obviously think battery life is a problem for potential buyers who are holding off.

A price drop would be nice too. Couldn't justify this existing price just for a watch.

I'd like to see a variety of designs including circular.

You obviously would be willing to have less battery life to make it circular? As the poster above said circular makes no sense in a smart watch. You can put a circular clock face on it already.

What would people like to see different in the design? Make it circular?

Thinner, (by a hair) and an edge to edge display?

As someone who actually owns an apple watch I would say that thinner would be fine, but really its not needed. Longer battery life would be good but again, not needed. The watch battery lasts much longer than my iPhone 6 does. I charge the battery every night and the watch is natural to charge at the same time. Charged my phone last night in the 40% range and my watch was still in the mid 70%s. All they need is a killer app and more horsepower to to run things. Perhaps a partnership with the big automakers to allow the watch to be used as a smart key

They could want a better battery to allow more horsepower without reducing the battery life.

The only thing that Apple can make me to buy next Apple Watch is the watch would have LTE capability and can be used independently from iPhone for any functions, and significant improvements that could make series 2 less than desirable to keep.

I would like a slightly rounder design, the current look and feel doesn't appeal to me that much.

Until there is a radical change in the design and functions I would probably consider getting something like a Garmin or Suunto smart watch before I even look at the Apple Watch.
