New Apple Watch to Launch in Fall 2017 With Improved Battery Life But No Major Design Changes

Battery life is already pretty good to me with watchOS 3. I'd be very happy with them allowing third party faces to be sold in the App Store, as long as they don't infringe upon any copyrights.

They are moving at a glacial pace with this product when you compare the situation with Gear S2 and Gear S3 watches which have variants that already offer cellular connectivity without killing the battery. My sport edition of the Gear S2 runs two full days on a charge with 3G. My husband's Frontier Gear S3 runs a full day and has LTE as well as a large rugged looking real watch appearance a lot of men on this forum say they miss on an Apple Watch.

But where they are missing out on is watch faces. The Samsung store has a wide variety of interesting and useful watch faces ranging from free to $1.99 for a "variety pack" with one basic face that can be recolored. Some watch faces do drain the battery faster but most developers as well as reviewers will warn about that. The customer can then decide if they still want the face or not, like the adults we are.

Anyway, in addition to making money on bands, they could be making some money on watch faces like they do for iMessage sticker packs. It would certainly make the Apple Watch more interesting.

Those things are also huge.

My Forerunner is bigger than my AW, but I have no issues at all sleeping in it.

The only thing an App can do to track your sleep is time the amount of time it's on your nightstand - proper sleep tracking will estimate how much deep sleep you get by monitoring your movement during the night

Sleep Cycle app can actually monitor movement simply by sitting on your night stand. It's accurate (there's a reason it's the #1 rated sleep app and has been for several years).

How about Apple do something truly innovative - add a radical new sensor to the watch to measure blood sugar levels through your skin. It was rumored Apple had this technology in development but it didn't make it into the Apple watch because they could not achieve consistent results. Now THAT would be a game changer for many millions of Americans living with diabetes.

Come on Apple, make it work!

To me the REAL answer to battery capacity /thin design lies with quick charging technology.
(so long as it's safe)

Thinner. Just looking at this reminds me of 1st gen iPhone, but if they can focus on improving battery life before they start shaving away at the thing then I'm all for it.

I've owned a series 0 and now have a series 2 and I have to say the only thing I would change is sod all. My battery lasts at least 36 hours with normal usage. It's waterproof, has gps, has a good overall speed increase and looks good.

If there was one thing I would ask is for fully customisable Watch faces. There are some great developers out there who could make some killer Watch faces for the Apple Watch.....
I totally agree with you on this.

really curious how much longer the battery life would be.
I had the 1st and got the 2nd one. The battery on the second is amazing! It can last me 2 days without charging

The battery on the Series 2 (3.1.1) is nuts. Easily at 80% at the end of a long day. As long as they don't re-design the entire watch, rendering the band investment useless, I'll all for whatever they have in store.

2:30 at 91%. Way better than I thought this watch would be.

If true would be quite disappointed. Battery is not the weakest link and other makers like Garmin are starting to incorporate decent every-day wear design. Is Apple that asleep at the switch?

I was hoping for not just improved battery life, but improved health sensors. I'm shocked at how much more accurate my outdated (and discontinued) Microsoft Band 2 was/is compared to the Apple Watch Series 2.

Apple Watch series 2's battery life is super good already. I can easily use the watch 2 days without charging. I stretched it to 2.5 a few times too, and maybe can last for 3 days (with power reserve mode)...
Thanks but no thanks if it's just battery improvements.
Agree.

The one thing that really bothers me about it is the bezels on the screen. It's a device that needs edge to edge screen. Much of watchOS seems to be designed so that it has a black bg to make the bezels less obvious but it just means that everything has to be black all the time which is quite limited. The screen is also quite small compared to the amount of space the watch case takes up.

I also agree with thinner (although it doesn't feel too chunky when wearing it) and better battery.
Black consumes less battery charge.

+1

Having this capability would be a game-changer for the Apple Watch. For some customers, having the communicator on your wrist while using other devices as your "screen" would be more convenient.

This would transform the Apple Watch from a nice-to-have accessory to a necessity for some. I don't see it replacing the iPhone as much as giving people different options depending on how they work and communicate.
+1

That would only be 12 months between series 2 and series 3. I find that hard to believe as Apple seemed to be sticking to more of a 18 month cycle.

Also, it'd be nice if Apple would offer upgrades to Series 2 owners. Drop your watch off for 24-48 hours and they'll install the longer lasting battery for a small fee. I know I'm dreaming but it'd keep AW users loyal.

@Relentless Power i hope they go for the same two years old booring design just like they did with the iPhone 7 Plus  (and not that circular one atleast that will look stupid) i personally like this design and don't worry you will not disappointed with the same overall third generation (Gold) watch because you will get new watch bands with so many fancy colors:mad:

Did you read your quote before you posted this? You stated you "Hope they Go for the same boring design" and then you stated "I personally like this current design." So again, you're telling me you don't currently believe in what you are posting and contradicting what you originally claimed. If you want to participate in discussion, then it would be best to figure out why you believe what you're posting before bashing a product. It just doesn't look good.

And for the record, the iPhone has nothing to contribute to this thread and is un-related.

The round variant mock up actually looks really clean and elegant. I like it. I wouldn't mind a round variant to accompany the rectangular design I have now.

I don't like that particular band but I couldn't find a more realistic concept than that one and the bands are interchangeable anyway. I would buy an Apple Watch if it looked like that.

Still not as good looking as my Huawei Watch IMO but I'd still wear it.
