New appleid's not able to use @me?

If you make a new appleid does the @me suffix still work? I made a new account when I was setting up someones ipad mini and I cannot email or log in when I use the @me suffix. I also helped someone setup their new mac and the same applies only the @icloud.com works.

Yeap new apple ID will only be @icloud from now on!
