Again, catfight is stupid. Just post some PPC apps or get out. Thanks for those who took their time to give a list of apps :)

You're right, I've done a really bad job with derailing this thread. My apologies, I shall do it no more.

I also really need to stop posting right after I've woken up... poor judgement.

I think that if you have a PPC Mac like I do (iBook G3), you aren't totally out dated. I have Tiger, and I'm happy. I use it all the time.:D As far as power goes, many PPC Macs will work great if they are in good condition pretty much. I agree with the fact that Intel processors are more compatible, but PPC Macs work great for those who don't want to upgrade yet!

Anyway... Here are some good apps...

Virtue Desktops (Spaces for Tiger)

Firefox

Theme Park

Monolingual (Saved me 1 GB of space! It works in Tiger and Leopard... but be sure not to remove your architecture!)

Audacity (Great recording program)
................................................................................................

Anyway... to all you Power PC users, I salute you. We can make this work!

Anyone know why Floodgap has been down for so long? I haven't upgraded to Tenfourfox 5 yet on my MDD since I haven't used it in a while. :(

I'm surprised there's no mention of Ableton -

Ableton Suite and Live 8 are both impressively well optimized (maybe, it at least runs better on a dual core 2.3Ghz than a Pentium D 3.2Ghz) for PPC and quite useable, though even just my Core 2 Duo Mac Mini 2.0Ghz embarrasses both of them (Dell and G5).

So yeah, Ableton.

Mixxx - awesome open-source DJ software!

The version prior to the most recent version of Serato Scratch LIVE

Hopefully more to come? But PPC is dead, like it or not. But still awesome that there are apps coming out for them, if anything for the nostalgic value.

G5 still very useful

I just bought a G5 dual 2GHZ for $200 and it was worth it. A lot of applications I use go back to the early 2000's and those programs RAN FINE back on my old G4 500. With new releases, things get bogged down, while at the core the application is the same.

Mind you, the G5 is my secondary computer, a core i5 wintel is my primary desktop now.

Apps I use
Logic Pro 8 (has a crazy amount of instruments - runs fine)
Final Cut Pro 6 (still a perfectly good offline edit system)
Garageband v1 (iLife 04 - really lightweight, runs fine)
iMovie 04
iPhoto 04
Autodesk Combustion (compositing software)
After Effects CS3
Photoshop CS3
Pro Tools 8 (only 1.5 years old, fully compatible with all versions of Pro Tools)
Color
iTunes
Compressor

I don't have it installed, but Avid Media Composer Software Only v3 works good if you are a video editor.

I'm in a band and we use Reason on a G4 867 12" powerbook. The thing is stupid slow for youtube, but we can write beats on it just fine! Anything without Flash runs pretty well.

I work at a post production facility and even in 2011, we still use a few G5s for audio editorial.

This is not a new app, this is actually an old app. Appleworks 6.

I just can't believe that the old apps runs much better and more efficient than the new ones. And it runs fast, I think the old codes are more efficient and optimized than the newer ones, of course without the eye candy which does nothing to improve performance but more of a memory hog.

+1

big +1 for appleworks 6. i thought i was the only one that still had that lying around

I have tried iWork (different versions, Office 2008) but I still keep coming back to AppleWorks... it is simple, fast and nothing fancy and eye candy...

And have lately dumped Safari for Camino (G4 version)...

There is a G5 build also incase you didn't know. Just so you know you could have an optimized build on both the Macs in your sig.

Thanks Zen, actually I am already running on both with respective optimized builds for G5 and G5. I find that Camino weighs lighter than safari in terms of memory used that is probably why it is more faster in page load up times than safari on older machines.
