Let me first say that I have never had ATV and this is my first and I am impressed.

I went into the apple store thinking I would be buying the 32gb, as online it said 64gb was available after the 25th oct. As I looked at all the ATV 4k displayed at the store, most of them were 32gb, then I went to the other wall, in my store they keep it on opposite ends of the wall, and to my surprise there were two 64gb there and so I picked one up.

I came home and as like with any Apple products the packaging was great. I opened it up and plugged everything to my 1080p tv vizio 80" tv. I knew I was not going to get the 4k benefit, but until I get a 4k tv, I wanted to get the UX from ATV 4k.

Set up was a breeze and so easy, I did and still sometimes do struggle with the remote touch pad. I did set the responsiveness to fast, but still struggle with it sometimes, I think its matter of getting used to it.

I like everything about it, the layout and how fast it is. The aerial wall paper is stunning, specially the Dubai at night. I wish there was a way to see all the available ones and pick and choose.

Apps - all are great but was surprised how good HBO GO looks compared to fire tv and nvidia shield, i can only image how it would look on a 4k tv. One thing I could not find was who to turn subtitles on, it is a universal setting or within each app?

Games - Was pleasantly surprised you use the remote like a wii, at least for a tennis game I dowloaded, it's great for the family, now I want to find more games and apps like this so my family can enjoy some games. any recommendations?

Itunes - I haven't bought a movie through iTunes, but the preview looked great

Audio - I know a lot of you have complained about this, but to my surprise, I was actually able to hear my surround speakers for some of the apps which I didn't with fire tv. For e.g.. I have a vizio sound bar with satellite speaker (small). But I kinda felt for the first time that it opened up. The dolby light did go up on my soundbar when I was playing these content.

Plex - I have a few movies on my external HDD and use my macbook air as a plex server and I tried John Wick Chapter 2, and it looked great, playing it through fire tv always was choppy and it would transcode. I did not find a way to see that information though.

Now my questions

If I am in an app, and I want to go back to home screen, when I press menu it just takes me one page back, is there a way to take you back to the home screen?

I have noticed that my sound bar volume is automatically controlled by the remote, which is great, but if I keep the ATV 4k on and when it goes to sleep, I have noticed that my TV shuts off too. Is there a way to change this?

Overall, my first ATV 4k and I am very impressed, I am sure most of the people with be very satisfied with it too.

Press the TV button to get back to the main menu (may need to change this in settings if it’s set to open the tv app)

You might need to change your HDMI CEC settings regarding the sleep issue

Click the Menu button to go back. You press and Hold the Menu button to go home. You can also change the setting on the TV button to go Home instead of into the TV App. I initially did this, before I realize you can get home by holding down the Menu button.

subtitles.... many ways to do this, all are when you're watching a video. I'm not sure if it maintains as you change apps.

drag down on the touchpad, there will be a subtitle menu option

double tap on the touch pad to toggle them (don't click, just touch) - i kept accidentally doing this, and couldn't figure out what i was doing, until someone on the forums mentioned.

ask siri
"turn subtitles on/off'
"what did he/she/they say" - rewinds a few seconds, turns on subtitles, and then will turn them back off after it's played a bit.

Thanks you all for your responses, it helped.

For a 1080p which setting should I use, 1080p 60Hz SDR or 1080p 50Hz SDR.

I was watching Rogue nation through the Epix app and it looks very grainy, anyway to make it look smooth?

I have my ATV 4k directly to an ethernet and still when I try to open the iTunes app, it is sometimes slow to load, the same with pausing a movie and trying to forward, I see the buffering circle, I though this was supposed to be super fast.

How do you reset or restart the ATV 4k?
