my original battery started to fail after 4 years of owning this 13" 2012 MBP. I bought it new at Best buy in 2015. With 10 cycles, the battery dropped to about 95% and after about a year, it was down to 86%.

It barely had 31 cycles on it this month and it shut off at 50% both times I tried to use it and the capacity dropped to 79%.

I ordered a new battery from ifixit and installed it. It's nice having a battery at 100% again. It's currently charging.

You need to properly calibrate it upon first use. You’ll need to use it but let it drain till it turn off and charge it back to 100% uninterrupted and repeat at least 2-3 times.

I will do that. This battery didn't come with anything saying to do that. They sent the wrong bit for the two screws but I managed to loosen them anyways.

Some websites/battery vendors say to do that but iFixit has a different way to calibrate it. Which way is correct? Who knows but I let mines die twice and charge it back to 100%. Now, I just try to keep the charge between 15-90%. I recently replaced mines as well with 3 cycle so far.

Thanks for that link. I really want to take care of this battery this time. I meant to with the original but I eventually forgot about it.

So I used the computer for the first time with this battery. The battery easily lasted me six hours with the screen brightness on about 2/3 and the keyboard lights all the way down. Thats pretty much the same usage I was getting on the stock battery and that's great for an after market battery. With the brightness all the way up, it would last me about three hours.

It got down to 7% and then within a few minutes was down to 1% and then slept so that's where the calibration comes into play. I let it sleep for the five hours as the instructions stated and it's now charging.

could you please list the battery's manufacturer, model, and age listed under "battery info" button? i'm thinking of ordering a battery from ifixit in the near future, and trying to find out if it's similar brand to what i have now.
