just got a new macbook. Any ideas as to what i can delete to get some of that 20gbs they took from my 120gb harddrive...geez this thing came with so much on it. Please let me know.

p.s. I also use omnidisksweep, which makes it pretty easy.
 
Languages, printer drivers, iwork trial, maybe some of the iLife apps you don't use.

I can't really think of much else. That should free up quite a bit.
 
I just do a clean install of the system usually, in order to get rid of things like Garageband and it's 2+GB of extra sounds. I find that's the easiest way, though you could just do a search for Garageband to find those files.

Yeah I was gonna recommend a complete reinstall. Best way IMO. 😀

any ideas as to why I would use this stuff? And if I decide to delete it and then I all of a sudden need it (for god knows what), can I just pop in the install disks and reinstall them?

Do any of these sounds and themes tie to any other programs? for instance, am I not going to hear a certain sound in ichat or safari if I delete my garageband? ((that was just an example, not a specific question))
 
You can install those thing later if you need to. They are in the optional installs package on the OS X DVD.

Well yeah, but unless you have every printer apple gives drivers for there is no sense in having all of them on there.

Simply take the one you need, or don't install any and get it from the disk that comes with the printer.

A lot of the time, the drivers apple preinstalled are also outdated. IMO it is better that you download the newest drivers from your printer's manufacturer's website.
 
Understand a 120GB drive only has a true capacity of 111.75 GB, so if you have 100GB free, you only have 11GB worth of stuff not 20GB.

Just making sure 😉 A lot of people rant about the size of the OS X install only later to find out that the real capacity of hard drives is actually approx 93% of the advertised size. Guess if I didn't know any better, I would freak when my formatted 500GB drive really only holds 465GB!
 
how can i uninstall languages? it's too late for me to do a Clean Install but is there a way to uninstall languages and printer drivers ??
