Let me start by saying I love macs. I had an ibook for 2 years with no problems (well apart from a hard drive failure after 3 months) and now I have just bought a 2.4 blackbook.

So the first one was great apart from the keys which were not that sensitive - so it went back. I have now spent a day transferring files and wiping he old machine and have two gripes that I want you guys to help me out with.

The first is a clicking mouse button. What do I mean? Well if you scroll like I do with my finger resting on the button normally it is silent. But mine clicks as I glide over the top of it. I have read a couple of posts which say use compressed air but this is brand new. Is this an issue - am I driving myself mad?

The second point is the DVD drive. It works - no problem but when I open the mac it makes a much louder - mechanical - noise than my older book. Is this something to be wary of or is it ok?

I don't have the will power to change again so wanted to know your thoughts.

The dvd drive sound is normal they are all noisy, its to do with the cheap components apple use.
Not sure about the clicker, maybe someone else on here knows.

I sometimes get that click, is it high pitched?

And the DVD sound is completely normal, my 2.16C2D sounds different to my dads 2.2C2D but they still make a noise when you turn on or wake from sleep.

The DVD sound is not too much of a worry - yes it just sounds cheap!

The clicking is strange. I clearly sounds like.. well a click - it is not really high pitched I don't think?

Sounds like it is rubbing on something underneath but just a little plastiky click. Bad example I know.

Anyone got any thoughts?

I know the click of which you speak...unfortunately.

I have a BlackBook (2nd revision) purchased as an Apple refurb. It's a very light clicky sound not at all like the solid click of the button. It's done this since I received it and it bothers me somewhat. It's a small enough thing to not make a big deal, but I'd like to send it in if it's a broken something — especially before AppleCare runs out.

That's it. As you move your finger along the button it gives a light click. Almost like my mouse click but a little quieter and you are not actually pressing the button.

This is a pain. On one hand I feel an idiot going back into the apple shop to complain about this but on the other hand I have just spent £950 and want something that works the way it is supposed to.

Also the wiping the hard drive and moving data thing is a real pain.

Anyone been to apple with this and they told you what it is or if it will lead to problems later on - probably just as my applecare runs out?

Unbelievable! It's stopped - maybe applecare have secret blog detectors and fixed my computer overnight. Whatever happened it is pretty much gone - just a small click on one side now but I can live with that.

Yeah I had the slight click problem with my button too then it went away, it still happens occasionally but always fixes itself. *shrug*

My Blackbook (2.4 ghz) also clicks once in a while. Actually it just started but after 10 min it was gone. So it is just sometimes. Well... Just to "wake" this thread :)
