Thanks for sharing his post. I love David Pogue and while that post explains some things, it also kinda confirms my feeling that design is probably not his strong suit. I agree with his thinking behind it, but it could've been executed better while still maintaining that style. There's a fine line between minimalism and something that looks like a Word doc.

I'm a little over halfway. It reads as a sanctioned history of Apple which is fine, but that means there is or will likely be better books written, similar to how Becoming Steve Jobs: The Evolution of a Reckless Upstart into a Visionary Leader by Brent Schlender and Rick Tetzeli is a better, more fair read than Isaacson's Steve Jobs or how Edward Niedermeyer's Ludicrous: The Unvarnished Story of Tesla Motors is a better telling of Tesla's story than any of the Elon Musk biographies.

The simplicity of a minimalist design requires utmost regard for the details. From the letter spacing, weight, and hierarchy of information.

For instance, I find the author’s name is too big. I think Pogue had it right in his mockup, but for some reason, the publisher must have suggested otherwise.
