I like the MBP's aluminum finish, too. I really liked the black Macbook, too, and thought that Apple's decision to replace it with the white model was partly attributable to Apple's desire to sell more 13 inch MBPs. Call me a cynic but there it is.🙂

well i was just thinking black. like the classic. I'm not sure myself but i think its the same metal, and i haven't had it "scratching" or anything, and no i think a light blue mac would look pretty stupid, but they do have high-grade aluminum in black, so i just wanted to know why. the silver and black iPods are the same price, but it might be the size is too small for a big difference. And it is not true that the most sold is the silver ipod as i have done that survey myself with about fifty people. most were the ipod touch, but the classics i had were almost all black. 17 out of 21.

i still think it would be cool to have a black macbook pro 😉

Aluminum doesnt come colored...its always the dull silver unless you polish it. There is no black aluminum.

If they had one in carbon fiber finish, I would buy it and be willing to pay a bit more for it.
Same here.

With that said, I don't think they will do colors simply because it would present logistical problems.
No, it's not about inventory management.

It's all about physical branding. Apple wants all their devices recognized at a glance.

I think they are going to use "professional" colors, so you won't see any pink, red, yellow, blue, etc.

I hope they make a Black Macbook again, but I don't see where they can fit that in if they want to make it more expensive than the base MacBook like they have done in the past.

Don't really know what you mean by "professional" colors. After all I could see the CEO of Yellow Cab wanting a yellow Macbook or the CEO of Mary Kay wanting a pink Macbook.

Though personally I would just opt to paint the Macbook myself. I bought my Macbook used for about $300 less than the going rate for that model at the time. Due to the case being heavily scratched with a big blue ink blotch. The computer itself was fine. I went ahead and sanded the case then applied several layers of clear coat. It looked brand new and I found as an added bonus that the clear coat has proved much heartier resisting scratches that the plastic alone.

Double dittos on liking the aluminum finish.

FWIW, it seems that it's more important what components are inside vs. what it looks like on the outside. There are a lot of "good looking" Windows notebooks that are "gutless" when it comes to power and features.

I know the aluminum only comes in silver im not a moron -.- i meant black aluminum as in the color genius. big statement made and you need to rip out the useless things like that? sheesh.

Black does not make aluminum high-grade and since paint comes in just about every color you could ever think of...you can make it whatever color you want.

If you're gonna get an attitude about not being a moron, learn to word your sentence correctly.

Perhaps the silvers would be the kind that you can just buy, but you would have to specially BTO a MBP online to get an anodized version. That makes sense, right?

apple is these day making their products more "elegant" if thats the right word.
i think the aluminum macs look pretty sweet especially the macbook air. but if you want you can send it to a company like colorware and tey customize it for you.

well really... "aluminum doesnt come in black its a staining process." i did not know there was a black aluminum mine in existence -_- this is meant to be an innocent little post as to why or why not to have colored macs and what the actual cost difference is between colored aluminum {I.E. STAINED aluminum}, versus the plain silver. i have a black ipod and would like to get a nice shiny new mac to match. 😀

And as in same metal, I MEANT BETWEEN IPOD AND MBP ALUMINUM!!! Brains anyone? do any of you even own a mac?

note, this is not here to correct everyone on badly worded sentences so stop it. and it honestly isnt that badly worded as it is proper grammar, he just invented out of nowhere something about aluminum not being created in colors, which is just plain common sense as most metals are silver/grey tints. sorry but i would not like a solid gold mac. too expensive as it is. now it's 5 in the morning where i am, so just let it go.

Color anodizing is fairly expensive and it would require them to keep much more inventory in order to fufill all the orders.

This is why, mostly.

I might consider black...its def sweet looking. but I don't want a bright neon laptop heh.

Black would be the most likely. Perhaps a limited edition special anniversay model?

Or perhaps they might bust out a black coloured line of machines for gaming. Because, you know, black is a lot more hardcore, tough-guy.

It kinda blows my mind that they can anodize stuff and they haven't actually done this as a BTO option.

Shoot, as a $50-100 option Apple would be making TONS of money - there's that $50-100 sure, but if it's BTO then you can only get it through Apple and that means they make more $$.

Thanks Steve...

Silver and Black are the only colors that matter. Love the air's and pro's colors. Picked out the ipods I have to match, even my cars are silver and black!

I just can't get over how all the macs are the dull grey/silver color when as proven with the iPods, they can in fact make aluminum in multiple colors very easily. So why not haul in a new black Macbook pro? Or other colors?

Many people like the subtle industrial design look. It's far more appealing IMO than gaudy bright little-kid colors.

From a manufacturing stand point, coloring adds cost, without improving the product specs. From a business stand point, it adds a whole bunch of additional SKU's to manage inventory of. And then what do you do when one color becomes very popular and sells out, while a different color is unpopular, so you end up with lots of unsold inventory?

They could offer color as an additional-cost BTO option though, like Dell does. That makes a lot more sense.

yes thats what i meant. my question was why haven't they done it yet? and the color i said was black so why are you bringing in neon colors? thats moronic.

its fine and dandy that they'd overstock, but you can order one and then after a while they'll know what colors are popular and then they'll make less of the unpopular ones. everyone i know has a black iPod be it an older nano because the new ones are stupid, a classic, even the touches are black. i have yet to meet someone with a silver iPod classic :/

not everyone wants a grey one. so those of you trying to advertise how much you like the grey ones, leave because this is for people who want them to NOT be grey only.

That's not the point. The majority of us like the black and gray. It's a business decision for Apple.
