Forget the Conroe the Mac Pro is a WORKSTATION that is the bottom line.
Ahh, the usual drivel about how Conroe chips aren't good enough because they're labeled "Desktop" instead of "Workstation/Server". So, what would negatively affect Mac buyers if the quad Mac Pros were based on Conroe with regular DDR2 memory? The smug, superior image, perhaps? By going with a desktop CPU like the quad core Kentsfield, they'd be able to use cheaper parts (memory, CPU and probably motherboard), while getting the same or higher performance (due to much faster memory access).

Why are some of you guys so obsessed with the workstation moniker? Conroe and Woodcrest are basically the same thing, so why does the thought of Conroe in the Mac Pro bother you so much?

As has been posted Conroe is limited to one physical CPU per machine. that means a MAXIMUM of 4 cores, and it means 4 cores sharing a single 1333mhz bus, as opposed to 2 dual or quad core Xeons with a 1333mhz bus each.

Yeah, I know. I was just talking about a hypothetical 4 core machine based on Conroe.

Lower end, which will be needed for balance when the Mac Pros probably go all 8-core with the next revision.
