I think the OP meant "custom" in the sense of not the four (or five) options that you'd normally get. So no, without third party software, you can't add custom resolutions.

And the third party software can only add custom timings on Intel Macs. BetterDisplay.app can add custom scaled modes (resolutions) but not custom timings.
