On one hand, it would fit a three year pattern for a Watch re-design (Original-3, 4-6, 7-...), on the other hand I can‘t imagine a more flat-edged Watch actually looking and feeling as good as the current design.

Interesting rumor, yes it would fit the cycle, but who knows... historically there have been very few leaks about what’s going on with the watch...

That rumor has been circulating for 2 years now. I wouldn’t be surprised if it happens next year. I am fine with the current design. Unlike many of the kids here, I don’t need a new design every year to make me happy.

I wear Citizen Eco Drive Promaster Sky "Perpetual Motion Device".

- It recharges itself
- It never needs software updates
- Its screen never gets black
- Its Funk Tech always shows me the exact time

Ok, I can't make phone calls with it but I can live with that. There are so many other "toys" you
can play around with all day long ... more creatively ... on bigger screens.

Honestly, for me a watch is a piece of jewellery you wear on your body. As long as there is no Energy Tech
that constantly keeps the display bright, alive and kicking ... the digital watch will remain as "boring".

That's my opinion.

Of course then 3rd party can sell a million new bands, bumpers, etc and all the crap we bought last couple years can go in trash.

Nothing remotely indicates Apple changing the band port. Also, a new design doesn’t constitute the band port changing. Apple has a small monopoly generated from the watch bands, and they executed it perfectly, nothing indicates that they’re changing the band port.

Every three years, Apple makes physical changes to the Apple Watch, at least that’s how it’s been traditionally. Of they retain the same square design, that doesn’t mean the band port will change, The changes are likely to be more internal, perhaps with the digital crown, a haptic power button, etc.

If they go squared edges in the future I probably won’t buy it. The curved edges suit a watch and that render on the video looks like some of the cheap fitness watches around now. No thanks Apple, it works on the iPad and iPhone but not on the watch. They need to remember the AW is functional but also is a fashion accessory at the same time and needs to look good.

Doubt if the design will change as its so iconic now - Although obviously back in the day the entirety of MR hated it's shape...and the AirPods and Tim Cook.....how things change :)

sounds like a redesign will happen which is only natural after a certain amount of time but lets face it not like apple needs to do much to the apple watch is the only smart watch on the market thats worth buying really they are so far ahead of the comp it's almost unfair.

Kuo Ming-Chi predicts a form factor change to the Watch next year. This fits the pattern, but what design?

I don’t know but I think the watch needs to be much, much thinner. As in 3 mm thinner. Won’t happen, but it’s high time we start moving in this direction. It’s sad that the Series 6 is only 0.1 mm thinner than the original Watch. It was much too fat then and it’s still much too fat now.

Apple, make the Watch as thick as an iPhone please!

Square sides, edge to edge display with slightly raised bezel (protecting from drops) and the long awaited micro led, resulting in longer battery life. I'm in!

Keep in mind, Johnny Ive isn’t in charge of the design team anymore, from his departure from Apple. Anything can happen when you have new leads that are taking over in terms of how the Apple Watch will conform in the future. There’s no doubt in my mind, ‘iconic’ has nothing to do with the overall look of the watch, when Apple could easily make changes away from the ‘squared look’ for a refreshed appeal to help boost sales.

I personally don’t want to see it go thinner as I know that will impact the battery. It’s already thinner than all the watches I have alongside it in my collection.

Other than it becoming thinner and make the screen slightly bigger, I can't see how they can improve on the design. It is gorgeous as it is, and they can't do much to the form factor anyway.

I just got 2 series 6 for my family. Would totally suck if they completely change the design next year.

AW is actually not "fatter" than a regular watch ... if it were the 3mm thinner as you ask for, in order to preserve battery life, it would have to become much bigger. With current battery technology in that form factor, there will be compromises ... and I'm betting that Apple will stick to the 18hrs battery life like they have been since S0.
But I do think we might more options, besides 40/44 and the SE, just hope they will not go the "Pro" route like they have with the iPhone ...

It's way, way fatter than watches I've owned. My chronograph watch is like 8 mm, and my Citizen dress watch before that was considerably thinner than that.

Yes I realize that battery life is an issue, but nonetheless I wish the Apple Watches were much thinner.

Well, you have to look at it like this, if Apple Watch becomes ‘thinner’, that’s also with the assistance when we see micro-Led, which reportedly will use less ‘power draw’, thus reducing the thickness of the battery, transitioning to a thinner watch. So the battery life doesn’t necessarily become a victim in this, when the display technology needs to change first, which I assume will all be tangibly related for a thinner Apple Watch. OLED it’s not efficient when it comes to power draw and it’s the first thing that I think needs to change if Apple transitions to a ‘thinner’ Apple Watch with different display technology.

I have an S4 and despite the fact that AT&T has a buy one, get an SE on them (after bill credits) on an installment plan, and would take my S4 as a trade-in for $130 (not too far off Apple's offer I don't think) I am just going to hold off and wait for the S7 this fall.

I am looking forward to S7 Apple Watch! If they have pull off a new design and add some great (non Health) features, I will upgrade from my S4!
