If he's that worried, maybe get your daughter something that's a bit safer than a car that's 20(?) years old?)))
Newer doesn't mean safer. A brand new car with electric windows accidentally driven into a flooded road is a death trap given the electrics fail immediately, and the windows no longer function, but an old car is more likely to have wind down windows, making for an easy escape. More electrics, more to go wrong.

The ad features a worried Dad, pretty simple. Rather than consider the upside of this feature for some who may be nervous about their teenager driving for the first time, especially given that driving is the unsafest form of transport on the planet, you added that the people this feature will appeal to suffer from insecurities. It's unnecessary.

The ad showed a parent immobilized by fear over their child growing up. Growing up is a fully natural, normal and healthy process.

Being glued to your phone in fear, waiting for that notification has got to be one of the most unhealthy ways to handle your emotions about this situation.

Just to be clear: I am not criticizing the parent for having feelings, I am critical of what the ad is selling. It is feeding that fear rather than than encouraging the parent to seek a healthier outlet/solution.

The ad feels almost predatory to me. Not a fan.

OK, now I appreciate your perspective more. You make a great point, it is true that worrying about something won't change the outcome.

Another perspective is that it is a tool for the Dad, and daughter for that matter, to use to allow him to build his confidence that she has the nous and skills to drive safely. One would hope that this tool becomes redundant for this specific scenario once confidence is satisfied.

It is the exact opposite. He’s not stalking her, he just wants to know she got to school safely. He is the opposite to a helicopter parent. I think you’re over thinking it. Predatory? Wow.

Could have been a funny, endearing commercial, but whoever created it has no imagination and no idea how to engineer an emotional access point. Some quick dialogue between the father and daughter would have humanized the characters and stoked our engagement with them. Showing the daughter run over something and hit the trashcan was silly and on-the-nose. It would have made a lot more sense to have the daughter driving carefully and responsibly, which would have been an ironic counterpoint to the father's anxiety. And the music is absolutely hideous. I can totally imagine hearing "She Drives Me Crazy" by Fine Young Cannibals in the background - now THAT would have been memorable. Oddly amateurish commercial for a multi-billion-dollar company.

Personally I think they nailed it. Having a song like 'She drives me crazy' would show that he has no faith or trust in her, whilst this video shows that despite her lack of experience, he still trusts her, and still nervous about her first solo driving experience. I think you are wrong 100%

Its crazy, like there were never Dads with daughters that ever drove before. How did we ever navigate life before Apple "fixed" us? Tech amplifies anxieties and then tells us it solved them. Marketing 101.

Yea... cars in those days came with power windows. If that's your one hope for surviving you're not in a great place. There are a lot of safety features that didn't exist back then, like lane departure warning, automatic lights in case you forget and loads more.

An opinion is not "wrong." Or right. That's what makes it an opinion. Just say you disagree. As I do with yours. We are not all going to receive this commercial the same way.

True as that may be. I disagree with your opinion 100%. which is what I said.

And yet it’s still the unsafest mode of transport on the planet. Go figure.

I thought the same thing. For all the money he spent on a new iPhone he could have bought a used car with a backup camera.

Also, I’m glad my parents didn’t need me to alert them of my arrival every time I left the house when they already knew where I was going. Definitely an ad for helicopter parents.

It's ok — with all that stress he's bound to have a stroke soon enough...

No, that's not what you said. You may want to re-read your first comment.
Okay. This is pedantic, but you want to go there… I said "I think you are 100% wrong". That is an opinion. I didn’t say "Factually you are 100% wrong". Can you see the difference? Please don’t try and correct my English, especially if you are wrong about it. And for that I am 100% sure 😃
