Leave iOS be. What is inherently wrong with choice here? Opening up iOS does not help the consumer. It won't suddenly resolve the "duopoly" issue people keep posting here.
The choice here:
Gated community - iOS
Open community - Android
This law would remove that choice. It doesn't matter if I don't enable the setting. It could either A) have a flaw that malware can bypass the setting or B) grandparents/parents/other people can be tricked to turn off/on the setting and get infected. This is like saying a gated community exists, but your neighbor can choose to open up that gate so anyone from the public can come in. So no, that means the gated community does not exist.
We need to be less selfish when it comes to IT security. I am sick of the spam emails and DDoS going on. You know what helps spread these things? Zombie computers. Just because your computer is not infected doesn't mean you are immune to the affects of having infected systems out there. I was able to track an influx of spam to my grandparents getting infected and having their contact list exposed. It was a brand new business email, with a unique domain and only my family knew about it at the time. It was only active for a week before I started getting spammed. No accounts, or business cards or anything had the email on it yet.
And another argument saying "Android offers this but doesn't get exploited", you do know that Epic is/was suing Google due to how "complicated" it is to enable side-loading right? So the argument that Apple can make it "3,000 layers deep" probably won't fly
And yes, take a look at history for once in your life. Using Fortnite as an example, when it got removed from the Play Store, Android users were at risk of getting malware. Epic wants a store on the phones. Look at how they handle this on the PC space. They will take people from the Apple App Store and force the app to be an Epic Store exclusive. The counter argument to this in the past is "well Apple just needs to do better to compete when this happens". Do people not know what exclusivity contracts are? Is Steam doing a poor job to allow Epic to do this on PC? Is Steam a horrible environment where devs want to leave it but "are unable to"? How exactly is Apple expected to compete when Epic offers a developer an exclusivity contract? Developers don't check with Apple if the contract is okay. Sometimes Apple doesn't even know a contract was offered! There is NOTHING Apple could do.
The only way I was able to play Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Tiny Tina, Satisfactory and some more games on PC was through the Epic store. I had NO choice. My buddies wanted to play it and discuss together, my buddies wanted to have co-op sessions. The only choice would be for me to drop my social life for 6-12 months or more until it was available on Steam then my buddies will have moved on. So no, its not an option to have zero social life for a year.
