New external hard drive is write-protected

Hey, sorry if this is a noob question, but when I try to save things to my new external hard drive a box comes up telling me that the disk is write-protected. Is there a way I can write-enable it? I have tried a bit of searching on Google, but to no avail.

You probably have to format it to something OS X can write to.

As Miles said or install NTFS paragon for mac and that should sort out your problems.

Macfuse will do the same job as NTFS for mac. Take a look at the link, it explains it quite well.

If the drive contains no data you want to keep open disk utility click on the drive and then click on partition and delete it and then create a new partition and format. This link may help you
