I am holding out for my first Apple Watch because Series 7 is supposed to have blood glucose monitoring. Anybody know if this is actually going to happen I have another (possibly silly) question about wearing an Apple Watch: if you want to track all your movement during the day and your sleep at night when are you supposed to charge it?

You should always be able to find an hour here and there during the day to charge it. I keep one charger at home and one at work for this very reason.

I very much doubt that blood sugar monitoring will come to the S7. I’m quite sure it will happen, but I suppose it will take another year or two…

Regarding the charging… firstly, more than one charger is practical (Office, Home, wherever) and secondly, more than one Watch is helpful too (I have 3 at the moment - S4 SBSS, S5 Alu LTE and S6 SSG 😜).

I got a Series 6 to replace my 5 (well actually 2 series 5) and was only going to replace it this year if either the blood glucose or blood pressure were added to the health features. We shall see. Both have been rumored.

It is unlikely that any Apple Watch will natively support a blood glucose sensor. The technology is just not there yet to provide reliable glucose measurements with non-invasive methods and most of the devices using non-invasive methods are big and clunky and would not fit inside an Apple Watch.

Another thing is that this is one of these technologies that you cannot keep secret for long, because they have to go through various levels of approval and certification including clinical trialing, before they hit the market, stuff that by definition are public. Medical devices are generally heavily regulated so we should have heard by now if Apple was trialling something in the field.

It is more likely in the near future, Apple to offer some kind of function to pair an Apple Watch with a sensor that is already approved for use. Some of the high end glucose sensors are using NFC technology to sync data between the sensor and a smartphone and to me it sounds more likely that Apple is trying to improve the users experience rather trying to introduce a completely new technology.

If you want blood sugar monitoring you’re gonna wait a few years.

Regarding charging. You don’t need to “track” all minutes of the day. Also, the standing goal is just 12h. Assuming you get 8h of sleep, that counts to 6h you can charge. And the Series 6 charges in 1.5h. During dinner and showering should be enough.

It's looking like blood glucose monitoring is still a little way off. In fact, it's looking like there may not be that much new with the 7, with the exception of a possible updated display and processor. I'm really hoping for an updated design and improved battery life this time around.

I'm still on the Series 5 and use it for sleep tracking. I can get about 22 hours out of a charge. I put the watch on the charger between 7-8 in the evening and then put it back on around 10. Now, if I go out in the evening, I have to do a couple of "micro-charging" sessions during the day, in order to make sure the watch isn't dead before bedtime.

Charge it when you shower or when you're at your desk or when you're watching TV. The Series 6 charges a little faster than previous models too, which helps, but even on my old, heavily used Series 3 I can track my activities and sleep and keep the watch charged with no issue.
