I'm going to use Yahoo news to find out who is going to win the 2012 US Presidential Election.

Yes, for those reviewing this in 2020, it was a shocker in 2016.

And for those wanting to go all PRSI, this is a comment on Yahoo News' delay in notifying people, not a comment on the outcome of the 2016 election.

The CEO woman is definitely a joke...

What's more stupid is that two years later, they announce the hack and mandate password change. What's the point?
Haven't they given hackers enough time to go through everybody's account and download every thing they wanted? Changing it now is already too late. This is the kind of irresponsibility that should get a lot of people at Yahoo arrested, not just fired!

I remember back then when I lost my account... Not only my password was changed by someone else, the original birthdate and other security information I entered were changed too... rendering my account completely lost. I entered the information to reset password and it was all rejected.

Yahoo deserves the situation they are now in because the board appointed the incompetent people to executive positions and even after massive loss, they still let those people stay in charge.

My work email is maintained on a hardened system which is their problem to keep secure (and had a legal requirement to be well maintained), though I strongly resist using it my personal emails given an implicit understanding that they could be viewed and audited and hence have no expectation of privacy.

All very good points, and I agree. I just wanted to observe that in far too. many cases, those "hardened systems" are Windows servers, which wouldn't be my first choice for a secure server of any description!
