I’m still waiting on a wired switch that looks like it belongs with my other decora and Lutron switches. I also strongly dislike the visual aspects of the Hue dimmer.

The closest thing to that is the now discontinued Lutron CBR. It is battery powered rather than hardwired, but I’ve had mine for at least a year and have yet to have to change the battery in any of them.

All newer homes I have seen in the US have these "Decora" style switches now, so I while I think this new Aurora device is a very interesting design, I wonder if the market will be limited by the switch issue.

I converted all my switches to this new style a couple years ago.

Just buy one of their Lutron Casetta switches and throw your Hue bulbs in the trash. Way better solution.

Leviton makes some but they are WiFi devices which sucks. I’m a big fan of Lutron Casetta switches and their peco switch add on functionality. Also since they use a hub and better frequency than WiFi you don’t have to worry about all the problems you might run into with WiFi.

I was just thinking the same thing - my home has switches that look like the one you posted as do most of the homes I've been in. While there may be a market for older homes that haven't been renovated I feel like those are the type of people who are less likely to invest in smart home technology?

Lutron doesn't give you per-bulb control, nor does it give you the option for color/color temp. Hue's logic for things like timing and triggers are lot more powerful too.

Except, yanno, those switches don't magically make regular bulbs change color. Or Sync to video. Or let you set up various themes.

But yes, clearly they're a "way better solution."

True, I guess I don’t value any of those features and differences. I like diming but don’t feel the need to set the mood with different colors. I prefer the ability to choose any bulb technology and light quality (Kelvin etc.) and leave the smarts on the switch side. I don’t like lights that require a router. I rather they work whenever my house has power for anyone who comes into my house.

Fair enough on the per bulb control and color. What extra logic does Hue have exactly? Syncing with video? How does it get the info about the video?

Got mine in yesterday and did a quick unboxing and install video:

So far have exceeded expectations... other than the (imo) high price, these are awesome!
