That they'd bring back something identical to what they killed? I don't know about that.

They only killed it because it was dual-platter (heavier, more expensive, more power-hungry, bigger). I know that no 1.8" 160 GB single-platter Hard Drives have been announced yet, but many Hard Drives have actually made their debut in an iPod so that's why there is still a chance.
On bringing it back, they've brought back a couple of things. Colours have been removed then reintroduced (iPod nano), matte screens etc.
Has anyone speculated that the Classic might move to flash memory instead of being hard drive based? 128GB might just be cheap enough to work in the Classic, without all the fancy Touch stuff.

i hope they have a new classic. i need more space. because i put all my cd onto ipod and listen using ipod lossless on wadia 17 ipod dock.
more space means wav is possibility. mean better sound too.

No, if the classic gets updated it will always have the same basic look. That is why it is called the iPod classic. No bigger screen, no smaller click wheel, probably just a bigger hard drive and maybe a camera on the back.

also, the 128 GB drive in that pic suggests that it contains a SSD, which is unfeasible. If anything, Apple would either put one of the new 250 GB 1.8" drives in it, or keep it the way it is and lower the price.

I think they killed the 160GB because the OS on the Classic could not handle an iPod filled with that much music. It gets really slow and crashes a lot.
Hopefully they have addressed this in the new model.
