I've been asking my roomies and no one notices it, I see it though. so I'm likely going to return it, I know this is just a how lcd's are...some are fine and others are worse....I'm just not sure if I try my luck with another 12inch MacBook and pray that the screen isn't worse or go the iPad Pro route.
Do you live near to an Apple Store? If so is it worth taking it in and asking them what they think??? TBH if you see it then I reckon that you'll never be happy with it. My finance's iPhone SE is like that - the screen is vivid BUT I see uneven yellow parts when I see white backgrounds for example in music or iMessage etc. AND I see it every time that I pick it up. But then the SE is cheap, the MacBook is not - it's damn expensive.
Any way that you can try a few in the same page etc at Best Buy (even take yours with you etc). The sad thing is, the MacBook with its Retina Display is probably one of the better LCD screens from whoever supplies them - LG? Samsung?
It's tragic that you work hours and hours and save to buy something and then the product you buy has a poor QC with something as important as the damn screen!
I feel for you as a new toy like this should bring excitement - I remember before I went to university, I saved for one year to buy a BANG&OLUFSEN hifi and I'd visit the showroom or stare in the window for 2 or 3 years at it. When I finally bought it, it turned out to be the most unreliable bag of rubbish. It sounded so dull - boring lifeless, the electric door jammed constantly, the CD player jumped and skipped - it was the biggest disappointment and at first, I tried to make excuses for it but as I grew wiser, I learnt that it was simply an overpriced 'thing' with poor quality components. It was a hard lesson but I never returned to that awful brand. Lesson learnt for me. Luckily, Apple isn't like that as a brand.
[doublepost=1560284962][/doublepost]Just checking on my MacBook now on MacRumors and the screen is just like yours - white in the centre and more yellowy/grey on the left and right sides.
I believe that this is simply due to the backlight used in LCD. Go over to a TV forum and there will be people arguing over backlighting used in LCD TVs. They are NEVER happy. It's one of the reasons why I went for OLED for my TV as any LCD TV next to it looked awful in comparison - especially when comparing viewing angles.
Apple clearly understand this too as they are bringing a new backlighting system to the next gen MacBook Pro next year according to reports. Still doesn't excite me though as it's still damn LCD at the end of the day.
