The Prime Minister has announced the next Governer-General of Canada, when Her Excellency Adrienne Clarkson retires
Note-- The Governor General is the representative of the Queen in Canada. They serve a 5 year term and although the post is primarily a ceremonial and communication one, they in fact have the power to invest and dissolve the government (see the King-Byng crisis if you are interested in Canadian History)

I'm just blown away by the nominee: The incoming Governor General is Michaelle Jean - a documentary journalist and broadcaster (on both the English and French national networks). She is 48 years old, born in Haiti and grew up in Quebec. She speaks English, French, Spanish, Italian and Haitian Creole. She will be our third female and first Black Vice-Regal since Confederation.
