I'm toying with the idea of buying an Apple branded ATI Radeon HD 4870, but it's not exactly cheap (here in the UK). Are new graphics cards likely soon (Mac Pro 2008), should I wait ? Thanks in advance. :)

I would say that it is likely that whenever the new Mac Pro comes out, it will have a new card as part of intro.

Just like 4870 came out with Nehalem last year.

Most speculation places new Mac Pro in the next 5 months.

In all likelihood it will be a 5870 with at least one MDP. Hopefully it will be nearly identical to the original reference 5870 with DVI and DIsplayPort ports. The more it is like the production 5870s, the more likely that PC ones will be flashable into a useable Mac card.

The EXTRA exciting prospect is that SO FAR...ALL ATI/AMD GPUs have been oblivious to the EFI 32/64 issue. So there is a good chance that 5870 will be UBC as well and therefore run on ALL Mac Pros, even the early 2006/7 models.

    Fingers crossed.
