Hi guys, I just bought a Macbook Air 11' and I have two problems with it;

The 1st problem is that I cant play my netflix videos on it. I keep getting a "Instant watching system compatibility" error but I know my system meets the requirements. I downloaded sliverlight and still nothing.

The 2nd problem is that I can't play my pandora music on it. I get a "It is taking longer than expected to fetch the next song to play" error. I already downloaded flash on the computer and I still get this.

I'm using Google Chrome when trying to use the two websites. I also tried playing netflix via safari with the same problems.

Thanks!

problem #1

my friend had the same issue, found and did this:

Move the following to the trash:
HD>Library>App Support>Microsoft>Silverlight
HD>Library>App Support>Microsoft>Playready
HD>Library>Internet Plug-ins>Silverlight.plugin
Empty trash, reboot, go on Netflix and try to stream movie, it will ask you to reinstall silverlight.

What is it on your Mac?

The picture I showed you was from my Mac.

Im still showing the same error page. Its not asking me to reinstall silverlight. Should I install it myself?

Are you using your phone for your internet connection (which means that you want to use your cell connection for streaming videos)?

Yes. My phone is my hotspot that connects to my iMac for internet.

From the Netflix support site - https://help.netflix.com/en/node/225
Your cell service may not support streaming (particularly with a shared connection…)
Your "Ookla" speedtest chart showed a D- (not great) internet connection
My "feeling" is that sharing your net connection from a cell phone may not give you every service that you might expect through a wifi connection.

That may also be why your Pandora is not working.
(You may find that it all works when you try moving closer to your cell tower, assuming that Verizon supports that service.)
try again when connected to a Wifi connection (and not through your cell!)
If that works on wifi, then you need access to Wifi.
(I'm sure that Verizon has a solution for you :D )

I'll try it again when I have my laptop in front of me.

My phone has been used for things like this for years without any problems. Why would it start now?

About Wi-fi...... yea thats going to be hard unless im at a tim hortons or something. I live in the boonies so there is no high speed internet thus me using my cell phone as a hot spot. And no, Im not happy about this either lol

This doesn't prevent you from continuing to use your cell as a hot spot.
Just don't expect all services to always work. This might also depend on the distance to your closest cell tower. That's why I posted about trying that, too.
But, the internet technology sometimes changes without even asking you what you use for your connection - such as the hardware requirements for streaming over a shared connection. Looks like netflix knows that's one that may not always be reliable.
I don't know how good your local verizon wireless support is - kinda varies depending on where you live - but might be worth calling. You might get lucky and talk with someone who can give you some good local information about your cell connection.
