So my late 2010 21.5" iMac's hard drive is failing, and disk utility is telling me "This drive has a hardware problem that can't be repairs. Back up as much of the data as possible and replace the disk. See and authorized Apple retailer for more info"

I have just bought a new hard drive to replace the existing one, however when using an app called Disk Drill, i have noticed that "Macintosh HD" has 2 partitions one is "Macintosh HD" and the other "Recovery HD" when formatting the new hard drive, do i need to have 2 partitions or just one? After quite a few hours googling, everywhere is specifying just 1 partition, but surely the "Recovery HD" is important if something like this were to happen again?

The recovery partition is created automatically when you install Mavericks or Yosemite, or even Mountain Lion.
