I have a power mac g4 that I have found recently that when I have started it it goes toa blue screen and stays there. I can go into safe mode and it works but now sound or other benefits of course.. I bought a new harddrive today after trying to archive the other and when I go to install OSX it asks to choose the hard drive and nothing shows up .. do I need to to hold a key down or something to make it recognizable .. thanks for any help

You need to format the hard drive. Look for disk utility in the menus when booted from the install CD. There you will find disk utility which will let you format the drive to. Make sure you format it to HFS+ Journaled or just HFS+ if journaled isn't available.
